News From Lantus Posted by Sin-Tex at 13:19 PM
Lantus "AUTHOR" of the great xSnes9x Emu and Game Ports such as Doom-X and Duke Nukem 3d has kindly e-mailed me with these updates.
Unfortunately real life has taken its toll a little and I haven't been around too much to work on my projects. I am still actively developing my homebrew apps however - xSnes9x is what will be released first up. I'm hoping sooner than later. I really want to get v1.05 out to the folks out there. FBA-X: A bit further away - it will support NeoGeo and some other goodies I'm sure you will like...but there's no ETA as we wish to release it simultaneously with the windows version , which is still up in the air. We cant release the Xbox port until windows is complete otherwise we will piss the authors off and they wont allow us CVS updates. Doom-X: There's no update on at this time. Duke3d: I have a build on my xbox which works 100% but I need to redo controller code. SDL-Quake: Its working 100%..ive tested it with Malice and a few other mission packs, its working fine. Again I need to implement controller code (only kb/mouse supported so far) SDLx: There's a few niggly bugs that Xport has found for me which I need to address.
I guess I just need an extra bit of motivation to complete some of these projects. Thanks to Lantus for the Update. Lantus Official Websites: ClassicX xSnes9x FBA-X

CXBS -: Xbox Emulator For PC.
News Source: NGE Forums
caustik author of CXBS has posted word that the project is still alive.
We're alive
Just wanted to let you all know kingofc, myself, and cxbx are all alive and well.
There has been a real nasty live lock situation in Halo, and tonight I finally tracked it down and fixed it. This means that progress can continue, and I think we are getting very close to graphics on Halo.
For anybody technical, the problem was a bad implementation of NtUserIoApcDispatcher (my bad). Basically, Halo was never recieving an expected Apc from NtReadFile on ui.map.
Also, amazing work by the anonymous GameCube emu authors..I know who you are

1.4 Mhz XBOX On sale soon! Posted by XDelusion at 19:20 PM
I thought it was just the herb, but I had a second glance and low and behold, the screen really did say what I thought it was saying, that Japanese retailer OverTop will offer an upgraded XBOX with a 1.4Ghz Intel "Tualatin" Celeron (256KB cache)! The units are supposed to go on sale in November, but aside of that I do not know the costs or anything. In the mean time keep an eye on these two pages:

Double Density CDR / DVD Posted by XDelusion at 0:31 AM
This is basically XBOX related and I am SHURE the lot of you will salibate over this news, I'm not sure where the original story came from, so for now thank Atarmiga (a.k.a. jOnk) for the news. :)
SANYO Electric Co., Ltd. has developed a high-density writing technology, "HD-BURN", which has allowed conventional CD-R media (700MB) to doubles the writing capacity (1.4GB). "HD-BURN" will be subsequently adopted into our Super Combination Drives. In addition, SANYO has formulated the standard of the writing format and started the product licensing
CD-R media remarkably became widespread because of its reasonable price and the superior compatibility. On the other hand, the needs for large volume of data writing, such as video writing have grown. For large volume of data writing, DVD media (4.7GB) will become widespread as well. In addition, users demand the media, which have intermediate range of the capacity between CD-R and DVD since there is a large capacity difference between these 2 media. Besides these capacity variation demands, users also demand usability and affordability. "HD-BURN" technology meets these needs and realizes large volume data writing at a moderate price.
A written disc by "HD-BURN" technology is compatible with a DVD player, and allows the player to read the disc with some modification of firmware. SANYO Electric Co., Ltd. will disclose the technology used to read the media written with "HD-BURN" technology by a DVD player, and will propose to other DVD drive manufacturers that they adopt this technology as an industry standard.
Benefits of the HD-BURN technology to users Double capacity
The high-density writing technology, "HD-BURN" allows a conventional CD-R media to write twice as much as its own capacity. This drive is ideal for large volume data storage such as video data. High speed writing and reading "HD-BURN" mode allows 36X (CD-ROM) writing speed and 80X (CD-ROM) reading speed at the maximum by using CLV (Constant Linear Velocity) format.
BURN-Proof prevents writing errors caused by Buffer Under Run errors Support for CD-RW media CD-RW media support by HD-BURN will be realized by modified firmware in the future. CD-RW media support by HD-BURN enables 24X data writing speed at the maximum for commercial CD-RW media. Applications software Available applications software for writing are B's GOLD by B.H.A and Nero by AHEAD. Users can easily use HD-BURN writing technology since these applications have DVD video writing feature and Video authoring feature.

First Details: Inside the Xbox 2 - Part 1 Posted by Sin-Tex at 12:26 PM
News Source: TeamXbox By: Cesar
Both ATI and Microsoft executives are absolutely refusing to answer questions on the Xbox successor, but that didn’t stop us in our mission to be the “Insider’s Choice for Xbox Information.”
We’re proud to bring you today the very first info on the Xbox 2 GPU. Our highly placed source within the industry informed us that the graphic technology powering the Xbox successor is a derivative of the R500, the successor of the R420 to be unveiled later this year at Comdex.
This graphic chip has been in design for longer than a year at ATI’s Marlborough, Mass. office and much like the Xbox’s nVIDIA GPU, the Xbox 2 graphic chip will also be a custom silicon that will have the R500 as its core technology.
This graphic chip is aimed at the next version of the DirectX API, most probably called DirectX 10, which is already in development and simply code named: DirectX/LH. LH stands for Longhorn, the next major desktop Windows release, which will follow Windows XP.
This same source also told us: “Microsoft chose ATI not just because the publicly known problems with nVIDIA but also because current technology shows ATI is the real winner when it comes to pixel shaders performance.” Something that is correct, as several publications have put in evidence that ATI’s Radeon 9800 Pro surpasses the GeForce FX 5900 Ultra in most Pixel Shaders 2.0 benchmarks.
“And we all know graphics’ future is all about pixel shaders” our source added.
This VPU is being designed with the latest technologies in mind, such as GDDR2 SDRAM provided by Samsung running at 1600 MHz. A 128-bit configuration is capable of providing up to 25.6 GB/s peak bandwidth, while its 256-bit mode brings up to a shocking 51.2GB/s peak bandwidth!!! Samsung’s GDDR2 256-megabit memory will enable graphics memory cards of 512 MB, althought it is impossible to confirm if the Xbox 2 will feature such amount of system memory.
Speculating the Xbox 2 might ship in Christmas 2005, we can be sure its graphic chip will support Pixel Shader 3.0, a model that is a significant improvement over today’s 2.0 version, as well as Vertex Shaders 3.0. This will make the Xbox 2, without a doubt, the most powerful console when it comes to visual performance with a graphic chip that, in hardware terms, is two generations ahead of current technology.

Frodo-X v4 Posted by Sin-Tex at 18:04 PM
News Source: XBINS
Commodore 64 Emulator for Xbox:
Authors: DragonZ, Lantus
This release is probably the biggest overhaul to date. It was supposed to have skin support, but I didnt get around to adding a visual skin editor like XPort has. I figured most people dont want to edit the INI file, then upload, then check, repeat. So for now skin support is disabled. I did redo the entire frontend though and got an awesome default skin from Fe-Flicker and Nuak of the Xport skin fame. I was a big fan of their 'blue style' stuff since they started doing XPort skins. There's really maybe 2 betas left in me for Frodo-X, at least for the time being. I wanna get back to working on the Spectrum emu port I started awhile ago and I wanna take a crack at the Vice (C64 emu) source again.
Enjoy,
Change History ---------------
Beta 4 (September 6th 2003) - Complete revamp of frontend code - New 'blue style' skin by Feflicker and Nuak - Added Screenshot support (up to 9 PNGs per game, use left/right on Right Thumb stick to cycle shots) - In game menu (click right thumb while in game) - Added Simulate Keypress menu (accesable through in-game menu) - Added Graphic Filter selection (Simple2X, AdvanceMame, Scanlines, TV Mode, 2xSai) - Added Hardware Filter selection (Point, Bilinear, Trilinear, Anisotropic) - User made skin support underpinnings (disabled for now)

- Fixed samba/relax shares
FCEUltra v11 (working Gun) AtariXLBox v 2 Posted by XDelusion at 4:12 AM
FCEUltra v 11: What's New :
- Lightgun changes
- Background music should no longer be choppy when browsing screenshots or during any other disk-activity
- Changed INI reading routine so that it loads faster
- Global Controller Configuration option. When you go to Main Menu -> Configuration -> Configure Controllers it will ask you if you want to apply the changes globally. If you select "Yes" then all of the stored controllers settings for all of the games you have already played will be updated with the new settings.
All colors on the lightgun calibration screen are now light. There are also visual targets at which to aim. This may help. The crosshairs on the calibration page are gone. Once you have calibrated the light gun, go to the "Show Targeting Screen" to see the crosshairs and to see if things are calibrated the way you wish.

137GB Hard Drive limit broken!?!?! Posted by XDelusion at 4:46 AM
It should seem so.n Apparently with the release of XBtool 1.0.8b6, they have included beta support for Paul Bartholomew's LBA48 and partition table patches. What this means is that you should now be able to patch your X2 BIOS file to support Hard Drives over 137Gb in size. I am not sure how high you can go, but I do believe a 200Gb is indeed supported.
Anyhow if you are interested in removing some more of those irritating limitations that Microsloth plagued upon the XBOX, then head on over to the XBtool home page and follow there progress!
