Bubble Trouble SX Posted by Sin-Tex at 23:06 PM
News Source: XBINS
Author SHiZNO Official Site: XFactorDev
Original game was for Mac, despite popular demand to port to windows the publisher denied, denied and denied...well now it really doesnt matter because i cloned the game and its almost exactly the same (despite a few differences, eg: useless powerups ignored)
With respect to the original developers/owners if you like this game you should probably think about buying the real Mac version (if you have a mac)...if you dont i guess you have no choice to play this ;) (unless you want to deal with the annoyance of having to emulate the MAC OS, or Ambrosia decides to port it to Windows)
Controls: Button (A) selects everything in menu, pushes bubbles in game etc... Buttons Black/White to cycle custom soundtracks Start pauses.
Source code is freely available, edit anything you want... its not the best source out there but it might help if you need menus and what-not for your own games... all graphics were ripped from the real Bubble Trouble, so maybe someone would like to make new gfx, which would be nice. (smoother animations maybe)
If you are interested in learning Xbox development, come join us in #xfactor on EFNET (IRC) or visit the site www.xfactordev.net for code samples, forum etc...
If you like this game check out Baku Baku X (Xbox version of Baku Baku coded by me).

Unleash - X Posted by Sin-Tex at 22:42 PM
News Source: XBINS
Unleash-X is a Xbox Application/Game launcher "DASHBOARD"
FEATURES: UnleashX has the basic feature of a dashboard. It can automatically search your HD, or DVD if run from it (though you should not let it search the dvd for speed reason). Here is a small list of the current feature of UnleashX:
1) Auto search for games/application with thumbnail for display. Searches and indexes your Hard drive for Xbox titles. Uses icon embedded within the xbe file or custom icon (Icon.png, Icon.jpg). 2) File manager (Copy/Move/Delete/QuickDVDCopy, Support for copy and resume so you don’t start from the beginning if an error occurs.) 3) Game/DVD movie/CD/Data detection with the option to autolaunch them using your favorite media player. Pressing any of the trigger button will suppress auto launching of disk. 4) Image viewer (bmp, jpg, xbx and xpr –built in to the File manager) 5) Zip/Unzip files right from your xbox. Supports extracting from Xbox Xip files (except xm files). Now you can check the contents of the xip files that came with the xbox without leaving it. 6) Auto/Manual clock settings. You can set it to manual so UnleashX ask you for date and time when it becomes invalid (i.e., it has been unplug for too long). If set otherwise, UnleashX will set it Nov 15, 2003. 7) Password protection for every item. With UnleashX, you can set a password for each menu, submenu, individual item, as well as a system password with maximum number of tries (only for system password. When the maximum is reached, the Xbox will automatically shutdown). 8) Color scheme. You can change the colors of all items, from the menu color, to the screen dialog, down to the default background and fog color. 9) Fully configurable (XML config file). To achieve flexibility, XML is used almost everywhere. It’s a pretty flexible format but it’s not an all and be all solution. 10) Widescreen support (HDTV and support for 480p was not tested) 11) FTP Server with PASV and multi-client (10 max) support. You can set the Username, password, port, maximum number of users, anonymous access). While UnleashX supports multiple clients simultaneously, all users must use the same user account (default is Xbox). 12) Simple screen saver and Auto-Turn off timer. 13) Sound effects (uses internal xbox files-it will still run without them) and uses the soundtrack for background music. 14) In-box configuration, so you don’t need to do everything from your PC 15) USB Keyboard and IR support (Pressing the Display on the IR for more than 1.5 seconds will turn the xbox off –though it’s probably faster to just select the power-off menu item) 16) Virtual Keyboard support for all settings. 17) Support for Memory Unit thru File manager and FTP server. You can browse and copy/transfer files between your Xbox hard disk and memory unit. 18) Partition Formatting. 19) Screen Capture. And with the built in image viewer, you can now view it too (though what’s the point?). 20) Extensive support for skinning. You can set the skin without restarting. 21) Newsfeed support. 22) Supports batch command. 23) Support for partition G is provided but never tested since I don’t have a large drive. 24) To keep the footprint small, UnleashX uses a lot of files that are already in your HD like the sound and xbx files. If you have ahacked MS dash, you’ll probably notice this as long as you didn’t rename them to something else.
At the moment, there’s not much feature but I plan to keep an adding more as I go about it. Here are some features I’m planning to include, but not limited to: 1) FTP client for your xbox to xbox transfer needs. 2) Video Support (WMV and XMV only). This is purely for skinners delight. It’s not my plan to make UnleashX a full featured multimedia player. We already have those and they work so well. 3) Text Editor. 4) SMTP (outgoing mail client) so you can send email right from your xbox. (Though it’s gonna be a pain in the *** with just the virtual keyboard) 5) More in-box settings. Xbe renaming, either temporary (via cache) or permanent (xbe). Adding/modifying password for all menu items is also being planned. 6) Game save manager 7) Custom soundtrack support. 8) And a lot more…

Thompson Replacement Lens Posted by Wraggster at 21:22 PM
Still very slow the Xbox scene is, whilst searching the web for something of interest i noticed that Divineo are selling a Thompson Replacement Lens for those people who have the Thompson DVD Drive and it has stopped working or reading properly. This is really only for those who have modded theirs and somethings gone wrong with the drive but it is a way of being able to reuse the drive again.

Xbox 2 Unveiling Posted by Sin-Tex at 22:06 PM
News Source: CVG
Microsoft is secretly planning to make the first demonstration of next-generation Xbox hardware at next year's GDC, according to industry sources operating at the highest levels. The Game Developers Conference takes place in California from March 22-26 of next year, and if the unveiling goes ahead, it will replicate almost exactly the way Microsoft revealed Xbox itself at the show in 2000. With Sony looking increasingly likely to start making waves with PS3 at E3 next May, it's believed Microsoft, having repeatedly asserted it will be first to the market in the next generation, wants to set its stall out early and, most crucially, first.
One senior source, operating under strict conditions of anonymity, told us: "The plan is to talk specs and show early tech demos [of Xbox 2] at a US event next Easter. This will provide a platform leading towards something more substantial at E3." The proposed showing at GDC is expecting to match that of the 2000 event, and will be behind closed doors on an invitation only basis at Microsoft's stand.
In terms of timing, this makes perfect sense: the current widespread belief amongst industry watchers is that PS3 is likely to release in Japan around Christmas 2005, with the sequel to Xbox coming in preceding months, with September/October the current whisper. With this in mind, Microsoft will need to be able to go to investors and related parties with hard evidence soon.
Further credence is added by a recent report by analysts US Bancorp Piper Jaffray, published yesterday, claiming sales of the current generation of console hardware have peaked, forecasting slowing sales for the remainder of this generation; if Microsoft and its competitors are to continue to build upon the installed userbase, the revelation and promise of new hardware is essential.
We contacted Microsoft for clarification, but a spokesperson would only issue the stock response: "This is a rumour and we do not comment on rumours." However, one highly placed insider, while refusing to be drawn on the potential GDC showing, did concede: "We do have quite a lot to talk about now..."

X-ecuter 2 4979 Bios Repack Posted by Sin-Tex at 14:15 PM
News Source: Team X-ecuter
Quote First of all thanks for the lots of feedback on X2 4979 bios.
A group of individuals using a current setup of a LBA48 bios with a large F partition have been posting that all the data on their F data dissapeared when updating to the 4979.06
We totally had no idea why as we've tested this on many many setups and works perfectly every time.
Then it hit us - one very drunken member of Xecuter packed the release of 4979.06 incorrectly. It's actually 4979.67 - DOH !
So apologies to those who've been scratching their heads over the last 24 hours heh. Don't worry using this bios wont effect your drive - simply use the correct 4979.06 which we will be posting shortly. Here is why the F data dissapeared:
This ONLY affects users with these setups: If you had a bios with LBA48 patches before and had one BIG F: drive (partition 6 only) and the drive was above 137 gig
If you then use 4979.06 you would get an F: and a G: - this would cut your F: to 137 gig and therefore make your directories table invalid bringing you an empty F: drive that is smaller than before and some space behind that could be a G: drive
Moral to this story - less alcohol when coding and packing ;) End Quote

Star Ocean Translation Posted by XDelusion at 19:17 PM
Project to see completion soon!!!
News has been VERY dead over the past few weeks, so I figured I'd lift up your spirits a bit with something I just happened to look back into today.
I went over to the DeJap Translation site, and read some VERY interesting news regarding Star Ocean. It turns out that they are hard at work on the project again, and say that they full Star Ocean Translation patch will be available by the end of the year!!
Along with this expect some continued support for the Dragon Quest 3 project, as well as a few others. Head over to there site and check it out!

X-ecuter 2 4979 Bios Posted by Sin-Tex at 16:56 PM
News Source: Team X-ecuter
Quote From Readme Well folks it's been a long time in the making but we finally cracked it. As most of you know the new v1.4 and v1.5 Xbox had a new FOCUS video encoder (FS454) which replaced the old Conexant version (CX25871) and video output could no longer be generated.
Evox implemented their old hacks to the new 5101 kernel and that all worked fine, however Xecuter doesn't patch the MS kernel, we use source code to develop our advanced patches and hacks, but without the source code for the Focus encoder we were pretty much stuffed. After many weeks of hardcore low level hacking we have successfully developed the Focus source code from scratch and are pleased to announce a fully working X2 bios with Focus support embedded for your enjoyment. Now you can use all the extra features you've all come to expect from Xecuter :)
Another couple of features include the skipping of the MS Dash clock check which has been requested many times. This enables you to boot from DVD correctly when setting up a new hard disk without any problems or errors. This gets rid of Error 16 problems.
We have also intergrated OzPaulb's fantastic LBA48 hack which we had to painstaiknigly convert from Assembly to C source. This is now embedded into our X2 source so you can use two versions of our bios. One for LBA48 6 and one for LBA 48 6+7 (LBA48 6 is one large F partition - recommened for new HD installs, and LBA48 6+7 is for those who want to extend your current F drive to its larger size without losing any data). For those who dont know you were previousley limited to a 137GB drive - now you can have up to 2 TB :) (2199023255040 bytes) or 2000 Gb for the *ahem* uninformed.
We've also added a "fix" section in this nfo that solves many crashing problems that some of you maybe experiencing with your games / apps - check it out.
X2 4979 will most likely be the last bios in the X2 series, as well as the X2.3 hardware design (with new power adapter). We thank you all for your generous support over the last 2 years and we will be seeing you soon with the feature packed X3 hardware and software.
HAVE A GREAT CHRISTMAS - SEE YOU IN 2004 !!!! End Quote
What's new/fixed - Added Focus Video Encoder Support (v1.0 to v1.5 compatible) - Embedded OzPaulb's LBA48 Hack - Added MS Dash clock check skip - Removed embedded FTP (was simply a proof of concept anyway) - Resized and optimized back to 256k - Clean up of code and some general bug fixes - 4979.06 = LBA48 6 - 4979.67 = LBA48 6+7

Megadrive & PC Engine Rom Packs Posted by Wraggster at 22:37 PM
Got a double of rom packs today. The Megadrive (genesis) rom pack contains 52 roms (public domain/freeware) and weighs in at 2.85 megs and the second pack is the PC Engine rom pack that contains 180 roms (public domain/freeware)and that is 2.36 megs in size.
This adds to a tidy collection of Rom packs for various systems:
Gameboy Mono / Colour Rom Pack 265 files Wonderswan Rom Pack 13 files NeoGeo Pocket Rom Pack 84 files Nes Rom Pack 163 files Nintendo 64 Rom Pack 117 games Snes Rom Pack 184 games Spectrum Rom Pack 100 games Commodore 64 Rom Pack 48 games Colecovision Rom Pack 62 files Vectrex Rom Pack 103 files Intellivision Rom Pack 20 files
Download from HERE
NeoGenesis v12 Posted by Sin-Tex at 10:28 AM
News Source: XBINS Official Site: Xport Emulation
Author Xport
What's New/Fixed:
- Memory corruption fix when loading Sega CD games. If you were having problems with certain SegaCD games not working (e.g. Secret of Monkey Island, or anything, really) then this should probably fix it. Some debugging code was left in and if the filename length of your SegaCD files was more than about 65 characters (including the path) then there would be a buffer overflow. So if you had a long filename like:
E:\\GAMES\\SEGA\\SEGACDS\\SECRET_OF_MONKEY_ISLAND\\SECRET_MONKEY_ ISLAND_02.MP3 then things would get screwy.
- Support for Linux Relax sharing At this time, your linux share name must contain the "/" character somewhere if you want it to be recognized as a linux share.
For example: rlxshare=/home/player/roms@192.168.1.30:1400
- Possible Samba fix/improvement : see next item
- New network configuration parameters : XBox IP, Subnet Mask, Gateway IP. Access these through the Configuration -] NetworkOptions menu or change them in the INI file :
[GENERAL] LOCAL_IP=192.168.1.30 SUBNET_MASK=255.255.255.0 GATEWAY_IP=192.168.1.254 LOCAL_IP is the XBox IP address SUBNET_MASK is the subnet mask GATEWAY_IP is your default gateway
Set these to the same values you use in your XBMP configuration file.
This might help people with Samba issues.
- If you were having Linux+Relax or Samba issues, then I suggest you try this version of NeoGenesis. If this fixes the problems people have been having, then the changes will go into all the ports I've done. If not, then I probably will not bother...so I need to hear feedback.
