"Its the next logical progression, somewhat expediated by team yamp's very
accomplished coder Frodo and the fine work he made in porting the mature,
well established mplayer decoder.
This is great news all round, the aim is to take the best of both worlds.
Both teams are considering a new name for this project so as not to step on

caffine-code removed
- fixed upload bug that would sometimes change filesizes slightly (1 to 16k
off)

worked almost fine ) This should remove some hanging issues
- fixed local delete bug, would hang sometimes when deleting directories that
was empty
- fixed local copy bug, would hang sometimes when copying directories that
was empty
- Put dvd-drive as n: between c and e, lazyness fault, didn't want to rewrite

easier to read

evo-x
-ftp server implemented for peer to peer / just ftp-server

Whats
New:
Beta 0.8
* Fixed issue with descriptions that are missing.
* Cleaned up message box popping up when a screenshot is missing.
******************************************************
KNOWN ISSUES:
* Speed when cycling items - At the moment, all I can say is that it will
take a while. The issue is that screenshot images must be loaded when
you select an item, and this takes a moment to happen. I need to work
up a good solution, since I can't load all of those images at once.
* Not all skinning options supported yet - Still working on these.
* Setting Random on with Global off prevents local skin track from working.
* More themes needed

Bigboy who has released emulators on the Dreamcast and the Playstation 2 has
now done the most impressive yet with a port of his Dreamspec emulator to
the xbox using the Openxdk meaning its fully legal and unlike soul captor
is doesnt need to use xbox linux, anyway heres the news from Bigboys site:
I know, I know... but I couldnt resist.... I have ported DreamSpec over to
the OpenXDK in under an hour, which shows either that the OpenSDK is very
simple to use, or that my code is great... yeah...I dont beleive that either.
So, you can now watch Manic Miner running, and awaiting input and audio. Still,
its VERY quick, and its still doing a full screen clear, and 2 screen copies....
what a machine! So, go get it from the Downloads section, and enjoy!

My dev box is taking a hard earned break as i finally finished my last piece
of coding tonight..SID support! what you say? i always thought it would be
nice to have some background music while browsing roms. so now you will be
able to listen to some funky tunes while browsing through the menu and go
back to the glory days of the old c64.
you can copy in your own sid files and play them also, or if you think the
c64 sucks and everything about it, you can turn it off and never worry about
it again..ive spent the last few hours just listening to different tunes again
and thinking back to the 8 bit glory days. good stuff :)
erm, ok anyway so where am i at? i mean ive been harping on about a new release
for ages...well the good news is that the next version is with a few beta
testers as we speak who are testing to make sure things are all ok..and there
is nothing left for me to do functionality wise..the reports back so far from
my testers is the new version is looking good and is a big improvement over
b5 which is good to hear.
so, its all done...barring major breakage to some code..you should all have
the next xSnes9x in your hands shortly.

What's news:
-Added a new feature, BURN ISO. Now you can burn any ISO (2048 bytes/sector),
without using third parties programs, like Nero, CDRWIN... All the images
are burned as Mode 1.
-Added option "ISO 9660 compatibility" (standard filesystem for Windows/Mac/Linux...),
with this option you can add the ISO 9660 entries to XBOX image. When you
burn it on CD/DVD or mount it with a image-mounter like VDaemon or Alcohol,
you can view directly from Windows Explorer, Mac or Linux, without the problems
of non-standard XDFS (XBOX DISC FILE SYSTEM). Now you can burn your favourites
DivX on a CD and use it on XBOX and Windows, without using xISO or similars
programs.
-Sorry about the problem of folder with a lot of files , i fixed the problem
with the nodes and multiple sectors for the same folder. I think is fixed,
but it should be tested in a xbox. I dont have xbox ;(. Please report any
problem to xiso@yursoft.com
-Added Shell Extensions, with the extension .ISO and .XISO, you can now Open,
Extract and Make (only folders) directly from explorer shell.
-Added Drag and Drop for open images.
-Added command lines switches.
-(Making xISO) Fixed the bug with folders that contains more of 2000 files/folders.
-(Making xISO) Now the insert in the image files with attribs of Hidden, System
and Read Only.
-(Making xISO) Added a progress window during the xISO making.

Media X Menu 0.7 (beta)
Posted by Sin-Tex

News
Source: XboxHacker
BBS
"Blah, seems like I'm always fixing something, and nobody has gotten back
to me with remote-enabling code. :::sigh:::
Anyway, I squashed a bug that prevented the usefulness of the skins on DVD-R,
and I promise to be more diligent with testing.
Beta 0.7
* Fixed a bug that prevented skins from working in 0.5 and 0.6
I now will test each release with a XDFS formatted CD-RW (problems and
time make testing on DVD-RW or DVD-R prohibitive at the moment)
Description, for those who haven't seen it yet:
Media X Menu is a menu system to launch applications from a DVD collection
or from
a hard drive. It is intended to be very configurable and allow new "themes"
to be added
in, both with simple visual changes, or adding 3D effects to the presentation
of the
menus by re-writing the software.
It is now in "Beta" status. It should be stable to use on DVD-R discs, but
who knows?
As usual, use at your own risk.
I am releasing this source code for others to use for both their own projects,
and
hopefully, to enhance this project. The current features are as follows:
There *ARE* still some bugs with this thing.... but I've tried to do as much
testing as
possible without spending three weeks on it. I believe most of it relates
to the
handling of the soundtracks at the moment, but tracking down everything is
time consuming
and at the moment, it seems to work 99.9% of the time. My suggestion would
be to not use
"random" soundtrack play, and it will be turned of by default.
* Impliments the "Simple" theme, allowing a title screen, menu screen, loading
screen
and saver screen, each with configurable elements (custom backgrounds, custom
bouncing
logo for the screen saver)
* Simple theme uses Skins based in subdirectories, and can use randomly selected
skins
on every run of the program.
* Launches applications from the hard drive and the CD/DVD drive.
* Screen saver!
* Can play one or more music tracks, with multiple options, such as-
- Disc-specific tracks (played from subdirectory, for example)
- Can play from the XBox soundtracks the user has on his hard drive
- Can play random or in order
* Supports BMP, PNG, TGA, and JPG image formats
* All settings are done via INI file support, a format familiar to most users.
* Supports 640x480 at the moment. Sorry, just ran out of time to get the multi-res
support in."

instability in the system. It's very difficult to debug an app without a debug
console. Many problems solved now.
* SKINS! SKINS! SKINS! SKINS! This is the first release supporting
self-contained skins! "DefaultSkin" is included with the release,
basically the same images and sounds as in the previous releases, now

xSnes9x Optimized Screen
Posted by Sin-Tex
at 15:07 PM
News
Source: xSnes9x
Hamburglar tweaked around with the screen settings in xSnes9x till
he found the optimal config to use.
Read on from the Forums:
Hey guys. I always thought the xsnes9x was the greatest thing ever, but I
had a small gripe with the image quality. It seemed to look like pixels were
being drawn as you walked. This was VERY noticable in RPG's especially and
was sort of ugly. So what I did was started messing with the settings, stretching
vertically and horizontally one pixel at a time. I noticed sometimes I'd fix
the drawing effect, but then I'd get a lot of flicker as I moved. Or sometimes
the drawing would go away, and a "ripped line" would appear in the screen.
I am very anal when it comes to picture quality especially since I am such
a SNES fan.
Anyway after over an HOUR of tinkering, I perfected it. Absolute perfection
all around. And to help you guys out, here's the file:
http://members.aol.com/silathis2/screen.cfg
All you gotta do is put it in your E:\TDATA\0fffdaed
and overwrite the old screen.cfg
Protip: UsePointFiltering=1 in the INI helps a lot too.
I tested this out for myself and its pretty much on the money. So i decided
to make these settings the default in the next version. and furthurmore gone
are the days when you had to remove screen.cfg to get your settings back,
ive added a "Reset Screen Defaults" menu option which sets these settings
for you.
Thanks Hamburglar!

Here you go folks, the first *!LEGAL!* xbox development kit. included in this
zip file is an MSVC workspace with two projects which you can expand on to
write legal xbox software. xbox kernel import prototypes are temporarily non-existant
for legal reasons, but look forward to much more soon. also included is my
new program cxbe, which is an .exe->.xbe relinker. this is used to convert
an .exe to an .xbe file, and is a necessary component of the legal xbox homebrew
development environment.
---------- Introducing the first legal xbox development kit... ----------
CXBE 0.0.1
And, as if that weren't enough, i've also updated cxbx to include the functionality
to import from .exe, using the same core as cxbe. go download CXBX 0.5.0.
look forward to more releases with much more functionality. i also wanted
to thank those who have donated to my efforts with cash and modchips. this
is motivating me and making it much easier to justify the time i am spending

Where the fluck is beta 7 you ask ? Well... it's still being worked on, I
was trying to get a bunch of good things in b7 before it was released, but
I've been busy with real life issues as well as other xbox goodies. I've decided
to make some haste on packing up what I got for b7 and getting that out instead
of trying to get a ton of stuff in it, i mean hell it is still beta... Sorry
for the development delay everyone, you have to understand this _IS_ a hobby
thing, I hope everyone realizes that. I've been trying to help out in other
parts of the xbox-scene that need attention, and time is just really scarce.
But don't fear, mame-x will mature, it's probably the most successful console
port right now and runs like 90% of all games.
I also want to say thanks to everyone who submitted a bug report for b6.
Sounds damn good and for those interested i did an interview with the great
man a short time ago Here

CXBX Site Update!

Caustik has updated the site with great news that we will soon be able to
make legal homebrew stuff.
"OK. Well, I have programmed some preliminary .EXE -> .XBE conversion, which
means it is not long until you can legally program homebrew xbox games without
the XDK. This is really kick ass, however I have to iron out some more details
and spend some more time working on this before I will release it. Once this
conversion is working, I will attempt to work with the OpenXDK project to
create a legal XBox homebrew C/C++ programming environment."

Virtual Gameboy v1.2 port due to release soon ...

Media X Menu Version 0.1 Alpha
Media X Menu is a menu system to launch applications from a DVD collection
or from a hard drive. It is intended to be very configurable and allow new
"themes" to be added in, both with simple visual changes, or adding 3D effects
to the presentation of the menus by re-writing the software.
Source Code Released
Media X Menu Source 0.1 Alpha:
I am releasing this source code for others to use for both their own projects,
and hopefully, to enhance this project. The current features are as follows:
There *ARE* still some bugs with this thing.... but I've tried to do as much
testing as possible without spending three weeks on it. I believe most of
it relates to the handling of the soundtracks at the moment, but tracking
down everything is time consumingand at the moment, it seems to work 99.9%
of the time. My suggestion would be to not use "random" soundtrack play, and
it will be turned of by default.
* Impliments the "Simple" theme, allowing a title screen, menu screen, loading
screen and saver screen, each with configurable elements (custom backgrounds,
custom bouncing logo for the screen saver)
* Launches applications from the hard drive and the CD/DVD drive.
* Screen saver!
* Can play one or more music tracks, with multiple options, such as
- Disc-specific tracks (played from subdirectory, for example)
- Can play from the XBox soundtracks the user has on his hard drive
- Can play random or in order
* Supports BMP, PNG, TGA, and JPG image formats
* All settings are done via INI file support, a format familiar to most users.
* Supports 640x480 at the moment. Sorry, just ran out of time to get the multi-res
support in.

screen joy.
* Added "DrawDescription" to Menu section to allow you the ability to turn
off the description.
* Keyboard support - Cursor Up/Down, ENTER to select. Keys skip title and
saver, F1 brings up

XBOXASM v.01
XBOXASM should be a first step in creating xbe files for the XBOX system without
using the official Microsoft XDK. It is based on MASM32. Of course, this version
of XBOXASM was tested using files of the XDK, but XBOXASM doesn't come with
these files.
This version includes:
- Readme.txt, this file
- Install.txt, installation 'guide'
- History.txt, history file
- MASM32 v7 by hutch (masm32v7.zip)
- a batch file to build xbe files (xmake.bat)
- a subsystem patcher (xsys.exe) used by xmake.bat
- sample source code (shutdown.asm)
If you want to help developing XBOXASM, you can:
- write an exe2xbe converter
- create your own .lib files
- write include files for the libraries

Source: XPAD
Hello all, To those who have waited for so long, well the news is grim. I
found out 2 days ago that ZeroX has left the Xpad Team and has created his
own driver for the project. "Nice Work". I dont blame him for leaving the
team and l wish him the best of luck. I've been out of the loop for way to
long, waiting for M$ to send me the XP DDK. Finaly a week ago l got the pretty
package and was all excited to get back into it.
"Well it looks like it doesn't really matter now anyway. Slayer also has decided
to join ZeroX in their endevour. I have had fun in bringing the information
we have gathered to you about the ability to hook an Xbox Controller to a
PC. And i think i have spread the word, world wide that it can be done. I
am going to continue with research regarding memory pack transfers and even
the remote control, and continue to bring info to you all. I've had heaps
of fun.
Bye For Now Regards Mr XPad :)
Thanks to Mr Xpad for the E-Mail.

"I've released 0.0.0.5. All of the buttons are digital now, including the
D-Pad. This should make WAY more games playable then before. I still have
not figure how to make both sticks work as independent X/Y axes. Also, I added
some test fixed to the INF file that should hopefully allow it to match way
more controllers. Go get you some!"
Update:
"Alright. I appreciate the responses in the forum, I'm glad you all are so
willing to contribute. I want you to remember one thing. I am not writing
this driver for anyone person. When you request features to make the pad work
in the one game that you want, don't exepect me to jump for joy as I quickly
fix the drivers for you. I'm going to slow down the release rate of the drivers
until I actually make headway. So far, the difference between 0.0.0.1 and
0.0.0.5 is really just button config. I will still read the forums and answer
questions, but don't expect releases every couple days."

BT Signs Broadband
Pact with Microsoft
Posted by Sin-Tex
at 23:17 PM
News
Source: Reuters
"Britain's dominant fixed-line telecoms operator BT Group Plc. said Wednesday
it had signed a formal strategic alliance with U.S. software giant Microsoft
to develop more high-speed Internet services.
The alliance puts BT on an equal footing with Microsoft's other telecoms partners
around the world, South Korea's KT Corp. in Asia and Verizon in the United
States.
Broadband access is a crucial engine of growth for BT as it seeks to branch
out from its core service of connecting voice calls to British homes. The
former state telecoms monopoly slashed wholesale broadband prices earlier
this year to kick- start the industry in a country which has lagged much of
the developed world in hooking up to the high-speed services.
Although no financial details were released, investors welcomed BT's tie-up
with such a big-hitter in the computing world.
MULTI-MEDIA
The alliance follows two deals BT struck with Microsoft in September, including
plans for services that work across varied Web platforms and a partnership
to offer broadband Internet connections to users of Microsoft's Xbox Live
games console.
"Both our organizations will be working hard to ensure we spot the right opportunities
and quickly bring to market great products and services that match the needs
of our customers," Microsoft Chief Executive Steve Ballmer said in a statement.
The two companies said they would focus on developing applications for multi-media
home computing, increasing productivity and flexibility for large organizations,
the new generation of mobile computing, Web services and portals.
Around 30 separate projects would be included in these five programs, with
details set to be announced as they progress. The latest involves Microsoft
becoming the software and content partner for BT's home computing service."

Team X-ecuter & Got Mod Team Up!
Team Xecuter
After a long conference, it has been agreed that Team Xecuter will join forces
with gotmod to work on the neXgen project to bring you the most powerful dashboard
and kernel pairing ever seen on the Xbox Console. As many of you know our
coding skills go beyond kernel patching as shown with DVD RegionX 2. However
we never seem to get the time to do something on a huge scale, but it was
suggested that we take a look at the neXgen dash to see what potential it
had. We have to say its awesome, and we have so many ideas to make this the
most functional dash available. Works begins immediately - who knows what
features will be announced ?.
Got Mod
After talking to the Xecuter Team we have decided to join forces to bring
the scene a dash like never seen before on any other console. With their coding
skills and our gfx and design we should be able to knock out any situation
that comes ahead.
Stay tuned for more info on Project neXgen, also xbins reports that they will
not be hosting the neXgen Software, they have their reasons they said. We
respect that we will find a spot to release it so the users can enjoy our
hard work.

I've been concentrating on the UI code some more tonight. So I decided to
add in another pop up menu for when a rom is currently running. From here
you will be able to pause your game, quit, reset the rom, add/edit/delete
Action Replay/Game Genie codes and load/save up to 5 savestates per rom. Hopefully
this new way of doing savestates will mean you wont ever accidently overwrite
a savestate. More-so those folks who complain they keep resetting or exiting
the rom by mistake should be happier now.
