Sunday, 31, March, 2002 Xbox ISO Crasher Posted by Sin-Tex at 17:13 PM
Just two days ago a Retail Xbox ISO Crasher was released, the author who wishes to remain anonymous sent SiliconIce "onwner" of the cool site Xbox Hacker.net an ISO that when burned to a CD-RW or DVD-RW & placed into a retail Xbox will crash it.
How does it crash your xbox ?, well without getting to technical it simply causes an infinate loop when searching for a file.
Is it ilegal ?, no it contains no Microsoft Code so is not breaking any copyright laws.
Read the crasxbox.txt file provided in the zip file for full details.
You can download the Xbox ISO Crasher here

Mr X has updated his site:
He has nicely provided a guide to say how to mod your Xbox Pad to get it working on your pc.
After you have done the mod you can connect your Xbox Pad into your PC's USB port & your PC will pick it up as an "Unknown Device". Now all you have to do is wait for the drivers.
Friday, 22, March, 2002Xbox 2 May drop nVidia Posted by Squirt at 20:03 PM
The Microsoft bods are well known for planning ahead. Whispers, from people who have seen the plans for the Xbox 2 console, suggest that nVidia is nowhere to be seen... Its news like this that must have Via and ATI shaking there fists in the air and screaming for joy!
According to various sources the problems between nVidia and Microsoft are based on what Microsoft considers slightly overpriced components. Microsoft is having a hard time making any profit from the Xbox and believes that slight drop in prices from nVidia would go a great deal to help. nVidia however dosnt have a great reputation for dropping prices.
Via will do anything they can in order to provide both the graphics chipset and CPU. The main competitor to Via comes from up north. Canadian ATI is on a reformed course and is agressively pursuing nVidia's market share. A deal with Microsoft on Xbox 2 would work wonders for the company. Allowing it to dig its claws deeper into nVidia market territory.
It is still very early days and many things may change. nVidia could change tactics and decide to drop their prices. Via or ATI are certain to do whatever they can to secure the deal while Intel could always decide to pay Microsoft a visit...

Monday, 18, March, 2002Xbox DVD Info Posted by Sin-Tex at 20:57 PM
News Source Xbox Hacker
After looking around on my xbox dvds, I have discovered that the so called security sectors are a type of "burst-cutting".
This is bad news.
These barcoded type sectors do hold information.
And there are not any standard drives that can read or write this type of information. I speculate that the only way to overcome this is:
#1 modify the bios on a dvd burner. #2 modify the bios on your xbox dvd drive to sense the custom disk. Skip over these sectors with fake data or something.
Until we overcome this, unless I've missed something, we will not be able to load any custom software on a retail box.
Check Xbox Hacker Forums for more details
Xbox Controller Driver for PC ? Posted by Sin-Tex at 20:07 PM
Source Xbox Hackz
Mr X owner of the Xpad site is working on a driver to allow you to use Xbox pads on your pc.
Current progress:
"I have been researching the Xbox Controller for 4 Days now and already progress is being made. As of today, l know what data is being transmited to the Pc via USB from the Xbox Gamepad. When a particular button is pressed a stream of data is transmitted and the example below shows that very soon the Drivers will be finished and we all can enjoy running an XBOX controller on your very own PC. Maybe this data will help others....."

Xbox 2 ? Posted by Sin-Tex at 19:30 PM
Various rumours & bits of news have been going around about the Xbox 2, so here is a bit of news about whats going on.
At present all the talk is about Microsoft thinking/ looking to design it's own CPU & GFX Chips, thay have apparently already been talking to Nvidia and Via about bidding for cheaper chips for the Xbox 2 while at the same time Microsoft has had staff hunting round for the contract manufacturers in Asia.
Some of you maybe scratching your heads & thinking hold on the Xbox has only just been released, so why the talk about Xbox 2 & have i made a mistake in buying the Xbox if there is going to be an Xbox 2.
Well dont panic - the Xbox 2 or whatever name it is given will be a long long way down the road, it is just talk at present & looking for the cheapest way to design & manufacture it.
So thats it, now go out and buy yourself an Xbox.
PlayStation 2 gets booted from CeBIT Posted by Sin-Tex at 18:51 PM
News Source ZDNET
What does this have to do with Microsoft's Xbox you ask ?, well just read below.
It seems sony have been in breach of CeBIT's rules by allowing visitors to play on the PS2's when thay are only ment for visitors to view. Ofcourse Microsoft had to point this out & complained to the show organizers, Hannover Messe AG, that Sony was breaching show rules.
"Sony approached Microsoft to find a compromise and entered into protracted discussions with the Messe for a deal acceptable for all parties, but none could be found. On Sunday morning Sony started packing up its 27 PS2s. The show, in Hannover, Germany, officially finishes on Wednesday."
"Microsoft officials denied that the company had complained to the Messe. But the show organizers confirmed that Richard Roy, vice president, corporate strategy, had complained."
You would think with Microsoft having such a great console it would not need to worry about Sony letting people play on the PS2.
For anyone wondering "CeBIT" is an Exhibition show. See some detials below.
CeBIT Hannover is the world’s biggest and most essential tradeshow for information and telecommunications technology. Not only does it provide a complete overview of the global ITC market but also a potential for sales which is unparalleled throughout the world.
