MAMEoX v0.70.3b released Posted by Sin-Tex at 23:04 PM
eabair has released v0.70.3b of his MAME port.
- Better lightgun support. The calibration screen which works perfectly, but the MAME core code does not seem to work reliably for lightguns. I've currently hacked it such that the lightgun acts like a standard analog controller, so it's sometimes usable, but still needs work (I'd say it's 85-90% there now).
- Fixed it so that you can use a normal gamepad for lightgun games, if you don't have a lightgun attached (and pointing at the screen).
- A beautified ROM list (r4dius does some great work). Also threw in some persistent cursor position stuff, so when you reboot your XBOX you'll start up right where you left off (great for testing :)).
- A beautified Loading screen (thanks Stephen!)
- Fixed that annoying "looping sound when quitting a game" bug (I just mute it before MAME writes to the HDD)
- Implemented support for Screenshots (though no viewer yet, hopefully we'll have something in a couple weeks). Also put in theoretical support for history.dat files, though I haven't had a chance to test it yet.
- More default control mapping (there were some things like lightguns that weren't mapped properly by default)
- Screen repositioning to go with the screen resizing.
- Support for "artwork" (I didn't know what I was missing until I threw that in :))
- A whole bunch of bug fixes for games that were reported as crashing.

Dust off those Light Guns! Posted by XDelusion at 21:15 PM
Eabair: Coder of the excellent MameOX has had this to say:
"So I had a nice surprise today when one of my friends went shopping and came across a Trhustmaster Beretta 92FS, which claims to work on 100hz TV's (haven't had a chance to test it yet, but I will, soon :)). Proper lightgun support is pretty high up on my list of things to do (just below fixing crash bugs), so expect improved, if not perfect support in the next release."
This I can hardly wait for, things are looking real good for this port of MAME, finally finally a new use for the ol' light gun aside of play House Of The Dead 3, and itching my back. :)

Happy Birthday Mame-X Posted by Sin-Tex at 2:02 AM
Provided i have not got the date wrong, i wish Mame-X a happy 1st birthday. It is one year today since Opcode released the first Emulator to run on Retail Xbox's.
On Sunday 23rd June 2002 both Mame-X beta 1 & 2 got released. Mame-X is a port of Mame a (Multiple Arcade Machine Emulator) that can run several thousand arcade games "almost 4000".
Opcode stepped down & handed over developement to Superfro near the end of June 2002. The last version (Mame-X b6) released on July 14th was based on Mame 0.61, to my knowledge Superfro is still working on Mame-X & is working on the best mothods to save on memory.
You can visit the official Mame-X website here
Thanks to Opcode & Superfro Happy Birthday Luv Sin-Tex

0.70.2b release
QUOTE From: Eabair himself
"0.70.2b has just been released. It contains some major internal changes with regards to the XBE section code.
The upside of this is that we get an extra 20 megabytes of memory or so (0.70.1b and previous had a bug that caused most of the sections to be unused, this is fixed now).
The downside is that this may cause stability problems with games that worked previously.
I'd like to ask every user to make sure that you post bugs for any games that don't work. I won't have time to test all the ROMs myself, and it's too big a job for the project testers alone. You can submit bugs on the Bugs section of this site, please make sure that you assign them to me (eabair), and make them Game Specific.
I'm also interested in pretty much any odd behavior that isn't listed as an open bug. Just as importantly, I'm very interested in having bugs verified by other users, so if you have an issue and it's already listed, please make sure you add a comment to the item."
NOTE: Please post all the unworking bugs you find on his forum page, and not in here or else he will not see it!

Or, if you like xbox emulators. Or, even if you just like downloading. Anyway, have fun. If you had troubles getting your PC to display textures in the last release, this one may fix it. But it may not.

New Chip: X.B.I.T (X-B Intelligent Technology) Posted by Deviance at 2:39 AM
New Modchip: X-B.I.T (X-B INTELLIGENT TECHNOLOGY) >> It looks like DMS , known from their DMS.3 flashable modchip for PS2, will soon release a no-solder (pogopin) modchip for Xbox.
From http://www.dms3.com/x-bit.htm
DMS Technologies, have designed a compact and easy MOD solution for all XBX owners. The latest V1.3 is included. Enter X-B.I.T, a combination of the Scene's favourite concepts and much more. We've made an art out of turning our consumers' feedback into functionality, we are sure that X-B.I.T is no exception. The list of features is comprehensive, and bridges the gaps between several other MOD platforms. We're also very proud to be amongst the first teams to make a solution compatible with V1.3. Envisage a completely solderless* solution compatible with V1.0, V1.1, V1.2 and V1.3, from all three territories, which can be enabled or disabled with a flick of a switch. There's also an optional mode to turn off the device, by holding "Power/Reset", which requires soldering only 1 wire. Transfer of files to the flash is handled by a built in USB controller, connected to your PC via a Mini USB cable (Included with MOD). A useful LED has also been integrated in the design to show that the MOD is powered up. We have custom-authored a PC transfer program for sending flash files from the PC to the MOD. The USB controller I.C which is present on board the MOD is fully H.I.D compliant and does not require a PC driver, it will self configure in any M$ Operating system.
Features: - Completely solder free design (*), using spring loaded pins and a screw, providing fast, reliable and idiot proof installation. - Compatible with V1.0, V1.1, V1.2 and V1.3. - Built in programmer, for sending flash files from PC to MOD. - Flashing operations controlled by onboard HID compliant USB controller. - Optional connectors with pre-prepared wire, for those that wish to connect the MOD by soldering. - Disable and Enable Switch, MOD status LED indicator and a Mini USB connector (for flash file transfer) on an external "control panel". - Compatible with all third party flash files. Multi-Bios support. - Optional Eject switch reset, requires soldering only 1 wire. - All MODS packaged in anti-static bags for prevention of ESD damage. - PC flash file transfer software included. - Mini USB cable included. - Colour coordinated PCB's. - High quality branded components.
*Solderless solution uses spring-loaded pins connecting to LPC port.
Team Xecuter presents XECUTER2 BIOS Build 4977
15th June 2003
------------------------------------------------------------------ Well yes it's about time we added this feature. Everyone wants and uses it - so why the hell haven't we added it before now. The answer is easy - we're lazy bums who couldn't really be bothered :p
So here is permanent No Reset on Eject Fix. So all you XBMP fans can use your favourite X2 bios.
What's New: - Permanent No Reset On Eject - Finally got around to adding this - HATED to have it reset in xbox media player :-)
------------------------------------------------------------------
Xecuter2.2 News
As reported recently there is a new XBOX which we have tagged "v1.3". Worringly all mods / bios's did not work at all. Of course initial assumptions were new RC4, new MCPX etc etc - however after much testing and desoldering of the flash rom we found that a hacked bios could indeed work but LPC was messed up in some way.
So we started to get a little worried that the LPC days are over. After initial tests by Team Xodus they informed us that the LFRAME (pin 3) signal was disabled and could we take these tests further (about time we actually co-operated on something heh)
So after confirming that LFRAME was indeed disabled (in fact completely disconnected for the MCPX) this meant that all LPC mods especially the CHEAPMOD were now dead.
However, our head coder was already experimenting with a new advanced LPC host system for Xecuter 3, and the exciting thing about this was that it no longer used the LFRAME signal !
After testing our prototype of Xecuter3 on the v1.3 we found it worked as normal - so we have simply implemented the extra X3 commands into the X2 chipset so you can all use these mods right now (as we dont expect X3 to be "gold" for at leat another couple of months. The natural label for this mod was Xecuter 2.2
I suppose its yet another FU to the bashers who say we don't actually do anything.....yes of course we don't ;)
------------------------------------------------------------------
Xecuter3 News
It's coming soon don't worry :)
I can announce it's extra functions will be fully supported by Avalaunch, MXM, XBMP & any other dashboard provider that wants to give everyone freedom of choice.

Xecuter FlashBIOS (Cromwell) Posted by Sin-Tex at 21:18 PM
News Source Team X-ecuter
About time we released our own version of the Cromwell. Very clean code - no bloated Jpeg libs, easy to read onscreen text with no crappy logos / images / advertising. Works with most flash roms and mods (inc cheapmods and X2 of course). Now with added erase / programming progress bar. Can use BIOS.BIN, CROMWELL.BIN, LINUXBIO.BIN, BIOSUPGD1.BIN, XECUTER.BIN for the flash rom image name (pointless yeah but there's so many different tutorials out there on how to create your image - this may help a newb or two). Very fast and simple to use - will release the sources under GPL once the code has been cleaned up.

Xbox 2 Rumours Posted by Wraggster at 19:05 PM
News Source = Xbox Rules.com
Senior development sources in the UK have today revealed to us that Microsoft’s next generation Xbox will use an ATi graphics chipset, following Microsoft’s apparent inability to work cohesively with former provider nVidia. Not known as the most forgiving company in the world, it seems that Microsoft has simply tired of the bitter arbitration it found itself involved in, following the breakdown of any productive working relationship with nVidia. As you may know, the Xbox’s inordinately high production costs saw Microsoft put the squeeze on nVidia over its pricing for the Xbox’s graphical heart. nVidia resisted, and no clear solution could be found, leaving both firms no option but to take to the arbitration table. Although the two came out from negotiations full of smiles and handshakes, today’s news clearly demonstrates that the rift became too big to breach, leaving Microsoft to turn to the only other company able to supply graphics power to Xbox 2’s projected output. Microsoft’s camp is understandably quiet on the issue, with Xbox head honcho and universal nice guy Ed Fries today telling us “I can never comment on rumours.
PJ64-X v0.07 Posted by Sin-Tex at 13:43 PM
News Source XBINS
First ever working N64 Emulator with sound support. Based on Project 64 Sources.
Supported =========
- Graphics - Sound - 4 Controllers with full analog support - Mempaks - Savestates - 8, 12 and some 16Meg Roms like Banjo Kazooie. - expermimental 32Meg support. Notes =====
- Roms in /ROMS - 'X' toggle between filebrowser and rombrowser. - 'B' for Credits page. - Back + Black = Save State - Back + White = Load State - Left Thumb + Right Thumb to quit current rom. - 32Meg roms should be launched with the 32M Optimized versions. (*Most 32Meg+ roms will lock, this is still experimental) - Source Code has been released.
Generally speaking, most things will work fine with Rice's Plugin. But ROMS like Mario Kart 64, Banjo Kazooie and Starfox 64 work much better with the Daedalus 0.08 plugin. Be sure to experiment with this.
Bugs ====
- Savestates are broken on Daedalus 0.08 Plugin version. - Sound is choppy with some roms. - Misc Other Graphics Issues. Some effect playability/others not. - Some roms have ZBuffer issues. Some effect playability/others not. - Roms that require large recompiler buffer can run slow/stutter/crash. - Larger ROMS wont load due to memory issues.
You can download it in the usual place #xboxemu irc.relic.net Currently on 2 File Servers ( !xbox2r & !xbox3r )

OzXBios 1.26a ( Cromwell ) Posted by Sin-Tex at 11:30 AM
Recieved an e-mail this mornning from OzXChip See Below:
OzXChip is proud to present a customized version of the Cromwell bios for distribution with the OzXChip modchip, it has been changed to incorporate a modchip flashing feature that requires a CD with BIOS.BIN to be inserted in the XBox's DVD-Rom drive. Once a CD is inserted into the drive the bios looks for a BIOS.BIN file and if it is found it will flash this onto the modchip (provided it has flash support in the bios for the modchip type), if the BIOS.BIN file is not found (or is the wrong size) the bios will attempt to boot Linux off the CD.
This release is similar to the Xodus Cromwell bios that is being shipped with the Chameleon although it is based on the much more stable version of Cromwell 1.26 and contains no code from the Xodus release.
At present OzXBios should work with modchips based on the following flashroms:
SST - SST49LF020 (OzXChip, Matrix & Cheapmods) AMD - Am29F080B FUJITSU - MBM29F080A Hynix - HY29F080ST -M29F080A (TSOP) Sharp - LHF08CH1 (v1.2 TSOP)
Included in the download is a PDF file showing the correct method used to create the BIOS.BIN CD, please note that it differs from the BIOS.BIN CD required for OzXFlash.
Is this the end for OzXFlash? No, we still see a need for OzXFlash and it needs a bit of a revamp so keep an eye out for a new release in the next few days!
OzXBios sources will be released as soon as The Mad Maragan can clean up his messy code! :-)
WARNING - This is an alpha release so please do not attempt to use this bios unless you have a means of recovery such as a external programmer.

Xbox 1.5 Rumours Posted by Sin-Tex at 12:41 PM
News Source The Register
A number of Japanese magazines are reporting that Microsoft is moving ahead with plans to release a redesigned Xbox, dubbed "Xbox 1.5", which will come in a significantly smaller case than the original model.
Weekly magazine WAM has reported that the new system will be launched alongside the MMORPG True Fantasy Live in Japan later this year - a move which would make sense, given that True Fantasy Live is one of Microsoft's key hopes for invigorating sales of the Xbox in that territory.
Also reporting on the new Xbox is respected Japanese games magazine Dorimaga, which speculates that the forthcoming hardware revision is the reason why Japan has not seen an Xbox price cut in the last few months - with the price of the old hardware expected to drop when the new version appears on the market.
Many commentators fully expected Microsoft to unveil a revised version of the Xbox hardware at E3, following long-running criticism of the bulky casing of the console. It's not expected that any changes will be made to the internals of the system, however - this is, by all accounts, a purely cosmetic makeover.
