X-ecuter advice + PSX EMU ? Posted by Sin-Tex at 19:19 PM
News Source: X-ecuter
X-ecuter speaks out about the Xbox Modchip Detection + PSX Emu on the way ?
"XBOX Modchip Detection?: We like how this quote is being thrown around to scare people. Yes MS can introduce modchip detection protection like Sony did for the Playstation. remember what happened to that protection? Yes you got it, it was removed easily. On the other hand you could also disable the chip by switch to OFF. Guys don't be "bullied" into thinking that any mod is future proof - it is not. But regardless of what you are told by anyone pushing a flash update tool for the Xbox - it is only as good as the flashes you are using - and right now none are better than ours. So yes you could buy a flash tool for more money and use 2 x flashes that you have to switch between to benefit from all the features. But we ask why ? With X-ecuter you get ALL the features you need at $20 less cost. Do the math......"

XB Connect 1.4 Released Posted by Sin-Tex at 17:10 PM
News Source: XBConnect
"While working on 2.0 I realized how lacking the chat interface was. I have moved PMs out to seperate popup windows and I have fixed the 'jumping' nicklist. Also I have re-introduced the Lock/Unlock game buttons. I thought I'd release this version as 1.4.
Mark has given me his new ideas for a layout for 2.0. Looking sweet and more functional. I think a wee or two before release of 2.0"
You can download it here
XBConnect is next generation software that gives you the opportunity to play Microsoft XBox® games on the Internet. XBConnect creates a "tunnel" between you and your friends over what your Xbox thinks is a LAN.
Modchips and Xbox Live Posted by Sin-Tex at 16:57 PM
News Source: XboxHacker.net
"This is unverified info, just something interesting taken from a forum post. Thanks to tser for posting.
According to an Xbox.com service rep:
Question: Is it true that Xbox online can detected a modded Xbox ?
( Human has joined ) ( Chris has joined ) Chris: Hello and welcome to Xbox interactive online chat support! My name is Chris. Chris: Of Course, we have implemented several checks for that Chris: First of all we check all the Harddisk Partition Size, if any of them is larger then normal, we will restore the partition Table Chris: Secondly, we check if we can write to the bios, if we can we will restore the old bios, No harm there Chris: Thirdly, we will verify the dashboard executable, as you know, we are allready replacing them by default, but just an extra check wouldn't hurt Chris: Fourtly, we will scan the Harddisk for XBE files. if we detect unsigned files,or files from our "Dead list" we will. well.. they will found out what we will do :-) Human: But all i wanted was a bigger harddisk for my mp3 collection! Chris: And eat peanut m&ms ?"

X-ECUTER DVD-X Posted by Sin-Tex at 20:51 PM
X-ECUTER DVD-X Version 1.0 Created by: X-ecuter
Info ----
With DVD-X you can now play all region DVD movies using any type of DVD Dongle on your XBOX.
Simply boot the disc and everything is done automatically. This needs to be done only once.
DVD-X is compatible with both PAL and NTSC dongles at the same time.
If you have any problem with screen flickering when playing NTSC films on a PAL xbox - simply use the Enigmah Video Select Disc to change modes.
Tested on a non hacked hard drive and also on a hard drive with evolution-x dashboard (original MS dash has to be called msxboxdash.xbe)
DVD-X was tested with the new x-ecuter modchip - the best of the best.
WE RECOMMEND YOU BACKUP YOUR DASHBOARD BEFORE USING THIS UTILITY AS IT MAKES A SMALL PATCH. WE HAVE TESTED 100% ANYWAY BUT BACKUPS ARE ALWAYS GOOD :)
Other Info ----------
Greets to xbox-scene.com, project-x, xboxmediaplayer.com, helpers & #xbox on efnet.
Props to visor, bunnie & evolution-x.
For those that say we stole evo-x bios for the X-ecuter modchip. Ask yourselves how our kernel is a completely different design and that ours has ALL the features on one device - and not two. Enjoy this free tool anyway just to show you some of our skills :)
Extra props to evo-x for the nice hdd patch though - full credits given.
Notes -----
This tool was designed on a 4034 console. We have implemented patch routines for the 3944 dashboard however we haven't tested but it should work ok - 4034 NTSC/PAL works 100%.
If anyone find any bugs please make your posts / comments to the usual places - we're watching ;)
Version 2.0 will not require a dongle at all. This in is development right now and will be released soon.
Final Note ----------
Xbox Media Player - when are we going to see a feature where you can swap the disc and refresh the list of files ? Hopefully its in the 5.1 release :) - Good Work guys.
Sorry for various reasons we cannot provide a download here, you know where too look.

Stella V2 released Posted by LyonHrt at 12:34 PM
A new release of Stella for xbox was released yesterday which brought it in line with all the other recent emu's being released. Heres whats new:
This one has been due an update for a long time. This release puts it in line with my more recent emu releases. Fixes/improvements include:
Sound is fixed NTSC/PAL should work the same Sorted listings Return to dashboard Search for cheat codes Reload game list Configuration from INI file Resize/reposition game screen
A STELLA.INI file can be written from inside the emulator. To configure Stella, press the Left Thumbstick. This will let you select the font height, the menu text offset, and the screen modifiers.
You can make the gamescreen as big or as small as you like and reposition it anyw here.
When you make your changes, it will rewrite the STELLA.INI file (if it was loaded from the XBox hard drive) If you are running the emulator from a CD/DVD media, you'll have to construct your own STELLA.INI file and write it to the root directory.
The structure of the STELLA.INI file is as follows:
# # # # # #
Each # represents a number. They are as follows:
First # - Text offset Second # - Font height Third # - Game screen X position Fourth # - Game screen Y position Fifth # - Game screen width Sixth # - Game screen height
So, for example, your STELLA.INI file might look like this:
0 12 10 20 630 450
This would mean:
Text offset = 0 Font height = 12 Game screen upper left hand corner position (x,y) = (10,20) Game screen width = 630 Game screen height = 450
**YOU MUST HAVE A SPACE CHARACTER AFTER THE LAST NUMBER IN THE INI FILE!**
I've included an example STELLA.INI file. No downloads avalable sorry.
Gnuboy v4 released! Posted by LyonHrt at 0:46 AM
Gnuboy has been updated to version 4! The changes for this release are as follows (from the readme):
Save States All the other UI stuff to bring it in line with the other emus
The GNUBOY.INI file can now be written automatically from inside the emulator. To configure Gnuboy, press the Left Thumbstick. This will let you select the font height and the menu text offset.
*This will also let you resize and reposition the game screen to whatever you wan t*
You can make the gamescreen as big or as small as you like and reposition it anyw here.
When you make your changes, it will rewrite the GNUBOY.INI file (if it was loaded from the XBox hard drive) If you are running the emulator from a CD/DVD media, you'll have to construct your own GNUBOY.INI file and write it to the root directory.
The structure of the GNUBOY.INI file is as follows:
# # # # # #
Each # represents a number. They are as follows:
First # - Text offset Second # - Font height Third # - Game screen X position Fourth # - Game screen Y position Fifth # - Game screen width Sixth # - Game screen height
So, for example, your GNUBOY.INI file might look like this:
0 12 10 20 630 450
This would mean:
Text offset = 0 Font height = 12 Game screen upper left hand corner position (x,y) = (10,20) Game screen width = 630 Game screen height = 450
**YOU MUST HAVE A SPACE CHARACTER AFTER THE LAST NUMBER IN THE INI FILE!**
I've included an example GNUBOY.INI file. No downloads available on the site.

Dgen v2 released Posted by LyonHrt at 1:05 AM
A new version of this xbox emu has been released, heres what he say's whats new:
This release should fix a lot of problems with the core of the emulator. The v1 version was using v0.26a of the StarScream engine. This was later updated by the GENS author to v0.26c to fix a number of bugs. I've implemented this newer StarScream version. Furthermore, there is also an option for using a Musashi 68000 core - which I've also implemented from the most recent release. Both engines play games that v1 could not. No downloads are available at this time.

X-ecuter Mod Pic Posted by Sin-Tex at 21:43 PM
News Source: X-ecuter
A picture of the X-ecuter Xbox modchip that can be pre-ordered from LikSang has finaly been released.

Also a faq has been given to answer some questions:
:: FAQ ::
Q: How can the mod work with just 1 wire ? A: Easy. X-ecuter uses a specially designed PCB which is soldered direct to the mainboard - takes 30 seconds.
Q: Surely I can just use one of the public bios' released ? A: Yes you can. However X-ecuter is the only bios with ALL features on one device. Plus its cheap and easy to install. There are always those that will flash there own bios - but there are also always those that want to use the latest mod, and this is it.
Q: Can you flash the onboard bios using Evolution-X software and with an X-ecuter installed ? A: Yes you can.
Q: So basically what you are saying is that this mod takes 5 minutes to fit, and has ALL the features of Enigmah & Evolution-X on one mod ? A: Absolutley.
Q: Will X-ecuter be working on any new features ? A: We have an add-on mod in development right now. We can't say what it is yet - but oh yes you'll love it :)
Q: Well isn't this mod just the Evo-x bios ? A: Of course not - if it was it wouldn't have all the features on one kernel would it ?
Q: I've been hearing stories about you guys being bullshit - care to comment ? A: The mod uses 1 wire, it takes seconds to install, its cheap, it works. Where's the bullshit ?
Dgen for Xbox v1 Released!!! Posted by HyperG at 19:30 PM
The author that has brought us Stella, Gnuboy, SMSPlus, FCEUltra, HUGO, NeoPop, has now ported Dgen to Xbox in 1 day! This has proven how easy it is to port things to the Xbox with a simple framework. Here is what the readme says.
"Same features as all the others (sound, cheat, savegames), except no save states. It might be a while before you see save states for this one, so don't hold your breath.
Should have the same compatibility as DGen.
Certain games are flaky and can really screw up the emulator to the point where it won't run any games correctly anymore. Instead of rebooting, I've added an option to reload the emulator XBE file. To do this, press the Left-Thumb and Right-Thumb analog joysticks as if they were buttons. I've verified this to work off the HD. It should work off a CD, but I have not tried it.
Also - if you load up a game and it does nothing but give you a black screen, you should reload the emulator XBE. If you don't you'll probably soon have to do a hard reboot of the XBox because the XBE will lock up tight. Again, this is due to some flakiness in the emulator."
It is simply a pleasure having such great underground developers such as the annonymous author of the emulators he has ported.

X-ecuter update Posted by Sin-Tex at 16:57 PM
News Source: X-ecuter
"After successful trials and testing with our team of beta testers, we can announce that the X-ecuter will be available before 29th July. This is the ONLY mod available with 100% of the features on one device. Forget silly clones like messiah-x and pandora - you may as well just use an enigmah or xtender for $10 as the features are the same
No other mod has the no-patch hack, no reset on eject hack and hdd patch all on one device.
Pictures and installation diagrams will be available at the end of the week.
Every feature that can be unlocked via the bios is now complete. So no need for any flashing of your bios or updates. All tools and fun stuff will now be software based like the evolution-x and boXplorer.
We've had a sneak peak at some "internal" tools which are being finished and you guys will just love them."

Xbox Utility "boXplorer" Released Posted by Sin-Tex at 1:27 AM
Info from the readme.txt file:
"boXplorer is a file browser for Xbox which allows you to directly browse files and folders on the Xbox harddisk and DVD drive. boXplorer can also view Xbox video media files (*.WMV) and launch other application or games (*.XBE files). boXplorer can be booted from a DVD/CD or added to your Xbox harddrive and launched from there. boXplorer is a great addition to Evolution X dashboard (on either harddrive or DVD/CD) since it provides browsing capabilites which Evolution X currently lacks. boXplorer currently does not contain any copy/rename/delete/move file capabilities, but this is under serious consideration for a future release "
Thanks too the author T'ulkas for the news.
Sorry i am to tired to go hunting for the file for download, try looking on irc somewhere.

Nvidia-Microsoft to work on Xbox II Posted by Sin-Tex at 23:21 PM
News Source The Inquirer
"PEACE APPEARS TO HAVE BROKEN OUT between aggressive graphics chip company Nvidia and belligerent graphics chip company Microsoft, if reports in today's Economic News of Taiwan are to be credited. And Nvidia is still chummy with TSMC and is developing 130 nanometer graphics chips with the Taiwanese foundry, the report adds.
The newspaper quotes K.B. Ng, Nvidia sales chief in the APAC region, as saying that his firm will work together to produce the next design of the Xbox, the Xbox II.
Microsoft and Nvidia are currently engaged in a dispute over the last generation of the Xbox, and we know that the Vole wants Graphzilla to charge a lot less for chipsets in the console.
Ng claimed that Nvidia will have over 10 per cent of Athlon XP market this year as its Nforce II chipset gets rolled out into motherboards."

MAME-X b6 Released! Posted by HyperG at 19:00 PM
UberJim has brought this to my attention on IRC, here is whats new (let's just say MAME .61 was ported this time :-) ).
MAME .61 ported over. Hi score, NVram, and cfg now makes directories on the xbox hd and saves your data. (You can delete it from the dashboard just like regular save games) Game compatability has improved keepaspect and hw_stretch DO WORK, altho I don't know why you'd even want to turn off hw_stretch. You can configure the analog sticks in popup menu. The code was cut up to save some ram into two pieces, Neo Geo / CPS2 and FULL. "This is a client/server package that will let you send send debug messages from your XBOX to your computer via TCP/IP.

SMSPlus for Xbox Released Posted by HyperG at 1:03 AM
News from Consolevision:
From the author who brought us GNUBoy, is his new port of SMSPlus for Xbox. It features the following.
Put ROMs in \SMSROMS Should work the same on both PAL/NTSC systems Seems to be some frame issues - still ironing out, but just about everything plays beautifully. Sounds great too. Zip support Search for cheat codes. (*REAL* easy - I made unlimited lives and invincibility codes for Sonic the Hedgehog 1 (GG) in about 5 minutes.)
Don't try to enter Game Genie codes for Game Gear. Those codes only affect the ROM image instead of patching RAM so they won't work.
We here at Xbox-Emulation.co.uk can not provide downloads for this emulator, as it was made with the XDK. Find it on IRC.
Quake 2x Released! Posted by HyperG at 0:28 AM

Movies are played at their native resolution (320x240) instead of being scaled down to 256x256

A new version of xSnes9x was released today, now beta 1: The changes are: Menu now works properly with scrolling working correctly. Moved Soft Reset function to left Thumb control. People were resetting their games by accident once too often. SRAM save support is in. All you RPG freaks can now load/save your games. Added an awesome new background for the menu. Big thanks to Spiral for the image. 2 player controller support. 4 player was promised this release, we found some last minute bugs in testing but decided to go ahead with this beta release. It should be ready for the next release. Proper memory cleanup when going back to menu and selecting different roms (emulator would lock eventually). Scaled the display to fit better on a whole screen. High Res display modes implemented and display properly now.
Sadly no site, and at this time no binarys will be on the site.

Didn't really take very long did it ;) , now here we have a new emulator ported to the xbox from within the last 2 days since GNUBoy v2 was released. Here is what it features.
- Sound
- 1 player only controller support
- The display is slightly off (random white pixels/garbled pixels)
- All games are locked at 60 or 50fps (depending on rom region) with no frameskip.
- Note: Super FX, SA-1 and C4 routines are in and working (compat should be equal to that of Snes9x Windows).
This is only alpha and has a number of things to be added and fixed. We can not provide downloads here, however if you look hard enough, you can find a channel on efnet that serves all emulators and applications released for xbox in which were not leaked, but were released.

These will be taken care of soon enough. ;) The forums are open again! We have a lot of guides uploaded (and updated!) so check them out."
"We've added some very helpful EvolutionX guides to the site.. go check them out (they have pictures too! ). Many thanks to Fulg0re for creating and providing us with these guides."

News Source: XboxHacker
What's New:
Sound is working perfectly now. :) (Had to rewrite all the DirectSound routines) Added support for ZIP files Included unpatched XBE (gnuboy.bak) Added "loading" screens Now using a smaller font for the game listing so the long names can fit on screen Removed extra lines on right and bottom of game screen Made game names all lower case Lots of other little things
Compatibility as good as Gnuboy (which is pretty much everything) and all games run at 60fps with full sound.
I didn't mention it last time, but all sorts of thanks and appreciation must go out to the developers of Gnuboy. It's quite an excellent emulator.

Atari 2600 Emu for XBOX Posted by Sin-Tex at 10:11 AM
News Source: XboxHacker.net
Icy2k got this nice info from a anon person on irc (efnet #xboxhacker)
ReadMe Release Notes: This is a port of Stella 1.2 for the XBox.
Obviously, I ripped the menu code from Mame-XBox. Credit goes to opcode for that.
At the moment, there's only one bug that I know about : from time to time the audio will drift and get garbled. It only lasts about 10 seconds though and then everything is back to normal. If I get some more time, I'll try and address that issue.
The only other improvement I might add is a cheat-code finder.
It takes a while to load up, so be patient.
Enjoy!
You can find more details about Stella here
Xbox Games on PC Posted by Sin-Tex at 9:59 AM

A programme called CXBX has been released:
CXBX is a program that converts a raw xbox game into an executable PE (.exe) file, so that eventually it can be played on your PC. It is unsure what the system requirements will be to play these translations, but almost definately your CPU will need to be a P3, and you will most likely need a GeForce card comparible to the xbox's."
Current verions 0.1. You can check the full details & grap 0.1 at the official site here

You can download the Source Code for MAME-X beta 5 here
MAME-X beta 5 is based on MAME 0.60 for pc.
MAME-X beta 5 ? Posted by HyperG at 8:48 AM
So people can't always win, so an annoymous coder on IRC has decided to fix up MAME-X. This underground release has been speculating on one of the big networks on IRC. It supposely contains a new splash screen, rom search status, colored menu, rom loading progress bar, and much more little bugs fixed. The source code was obviously compiled by another user though for save measures. Expect a newer beta 6 later to appear with MAME .61 instead of .60 , later sometime today.
