Breaking the Limit ?
Posted by Sin-Tex at 10:29 AM

News Source: Xbox-Scene

137gb LIMIT BROKEN

Not Just Yet, but "oz_paulb" from "Xbox Scene Forums" has been working on breaking the 137gb limit due to his suspicion that the limit was caused by software rather than hardware.

QUOTE
Hey -

I've got some great news - I have the MS Xbox KERNEL reading/writing an LBA48 drive using the LBA48 commands (meaning: drives > 137GB will be possible)!

The KERNEL recognizes that it's an LBA48 drive at startup time, and sets the drive size accordingly (I'm using a 200GB drive, and it's reading the size correctly).

The KERNEL read/write functions are now using LBA48 commands, and they work!

Now, I've not tried reading/writing past the LBA28 limit on the disk, but there's no reason it won't work - the only possible issue was whether/not the LBA48 commands/command-structure would work.

I've got to clean up the error checking, and finalize a couple more routines. Then, I'll write a test app that creates a bunch of unique files on the F: partition, and goes back/verifies they all are still unique (to confirm nothing 'wraps' and overwrites back to the beginning).

I've also got a simple 'partition table' mechanism, so there can be up to 8 partitions on the drive. The main reason for this is to allow for other operating systems (like Linux) to co-exist with the Xbox (usually, the Xbox uses up the entire remainder of the drive for F:, leaving nothing for Linux).

I hope to have this all finished up in the next couple of days (depends on my 'real' job, and how busy I am there). I just wanted to give an update, since I think people are interested in this.

Fix For 4978 Bios And X2lite Chips
Posted by Sin-Tex at 18:07 PM

News Source: MaxConsole
Posted by sektor3

1) turn on xbox with the modchip disabled

2) when you enter the default ms dash switch the mod back on.

3) when you have did this open the dvd tray by pressing the eject button.

4) now close the tray again it should boot you to the XBOX Logo and microsoft one.

5) press eject again and this will fire up XBOX LOGO and xecuter logo.

6) evox should now boot, simply get ftp'd in and flash with an older working bios.

hope this also helps people having problems.

If your having problems getting the above to work try the one below.

News Source: Xbox Scene Forums
Posted by A1patriot
For ppl like me who trashed their x2 lite chips flashing with 4978 bios (yeah, yeah sticks and stones) here is a fix I stumbled upon :-

1. Make a "Free-Xevox" xbox cd and load with x2 lite switched off.
2. It should freeze up ya box cos it's looking for the font hacks (which aren't there).
3. Switch ya chip back on and hit the eject button.
4. Should now reboot into 4978 bios.
5. Now reflash back to 4977 and next time read up b4 u flash (hehe)

PS. did it twice to confirm it works, experiment with the above slighlty if it don't work 4 u.

peace out

X-ecuter Bios 4978 Problems ?
Posted by Sin-Tex at 18:12 PM

CAUTION WHEN FLASHING YOUR MODCHIPS
WITH THE LATEST X-ECUTER BIOS

Some of the people on #xboxemu have flashed the latest 4978 bios & then found there xbox no longer working.
Ofcourse this is only with the modchip turned on & if using the 4978 bios.

Example of what has been said by one user:
Stevey:
I have X-ecuter 2.0 Lite Modchip using 4977 bios with Xbox Version v1.1, then using Evolution-X flashed the new 4978 bios ( X2_4978.bin ). i.e Erased old bios flashed the new one xbox shuts down, however the xbox will no longer boot with the modchip enabled. ( Getting 3x reset and red/green flash )

Sin-Tex:
I decided to try the bios myself using Xbox Version 1.2 & a X2.1 Lite chip. Got the same problem, flashed perfectly using Evo-X Dashboard but got "3x reset and red/green flash" when turning xbox back on.

GeoFFala:
Flashed 4978 bios o.k using X2.2 Pro with Xbox Version 1.3, however has mentioned that now some of his applications will no longer boot from the hard drive.

Feel free to drop me an e-mail if you have any info regarding this.

XECUTER2 BIOS Build 4978
Posted by Sin-Tex at 17:49 PM

Team Xecuter presents XECUTER2 BIOS Build 4978

Release Date 22nd August 2003

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
So what's new ?
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Well we've been saying it for a long time - that Bios's would 1 day breal the 1MB barrier and beyond.

Team Xecuter are proud to give you a glimpse into to the future of Xbox Bios's and Modification hardware.

We have acheived another world first by embedding an entire FTP server into the BIOS - so as soon as you
install the mod you are able to FTP into your XBOX with no hacked dashboard installed - or you may have evox,
avalaunch, mxm or another installed but you messed up the settings. Those worries are now a thing of the past
with X2 4978. Now bear in mind this is a glimpse at some of the ideas we're working very hard on with X3 - it's
taking a long time to produce so we thought you at least deserved to get a glimpse of what to expect.

XBOX is set to a Static IP: 192.168.10.123, Subnet Mask: 255.255.0.0, Login/Pass: x3 / x3

Simply setup your NIC to a similar IP (e.g. 192.168.10.50 with a subnet mask of 255.255.0.0 and NO GATEWAY or DNS)

The mod acts as normal in default mode - you won't even notice anything is different. EvoX FTP settings are not
affected and you have your perfectly normal (if you can call it normal) X2 dashboard.

To activate the FTP Server - simply press and hold the "A" button on bootup and then connect to your XBOX :)

Speeds are not as fast as can be (dont forget this is Alpha) but you will still get a respectable 2000KB/Sec
I recorded an average: Transferred 1 file totaling 19,302,690 bytes in 10.23 (1,867.47 KB/Sec)

I'd also like to point out that we have changed the dashboard boot sequence:

1) evoXdash.xbe
2) avadash.xbe
3) mxmdash.xbe
4) xboxdash.xbe

Enjoy this latest release - trust is when we say we have SO MUCH MORE in the pipeline :)

FCEUltra-X v9
Posted by Sin-Tex at 12:38 PM

Xbox Scene Forums

What's New :

- Fixed bug where emu would crash if you tried to use Famicom Disk System options on
non-FDS games.

- Different PAL/NTSC sync method. Should work for everyone - let me know if something
works worse for you now.

- 480p, 720p, 1080i video modes
- Switching to a high-res mode eats up a lot of extra memory. Transition effects
with the default FCEUltra skin may act funny from time to time because of this. Games
should play normally, however. If you are using a skin for FCEUltra that is not the
default one, then I cannot guarantee that things will work correctly in high-res mode.
If you are having problems in high-res mode, then I suggest downloading a very simple skin
(one with no sprites, for example) and using that instead.

- Hardware filters - point, bilinear, trilinear, anisotropic

- Relax shares like $ROOT$ should work now.

- Selectable throttle speed - control how fast your throttle/fast forward functions

- New option to auto-load the most recent save state. Disable from the Configuration menu.

- Auto-Screenshot Capture Mode - when turned on, screenshots will be taken at regular frame
intervals. This interval is user-specified by the "Auto-Screenshot Capture Delay"
setting on the Configuration menu. Useful for ripping sprites.

- Several new transition effects. Currently, the transition effect is set to "random". If you
want to set the transition effect to a specific setting, then go to Main Menu -> Configuration ->
Configure Skin -> Transition Effect. If you don't want to see any transitions, then set
the Transition Speed to 0 on the same menu.

- Changed memory management of background textures. This results in more free memory allowing
for more/larger skin media. (This is really only of interest to people making skins.)

- Garbage lines at top/bottom of screen that appeared for some games should be gone now.

- New option to "Clip Sides" of game screen for games like Super Mario Bros. 3 where it should
display 240 pixels per line instead of 256.

NeoGenesis v10
Posted by Sin-Tex at 19:12 PM

News Source: XBINS

What's New:

- PAL50 support was broken in v8 and fixed in v9, but v9 broke 4x filters and would hang
whenever trying to change XBox filters. This is fixed.

- 4x Filters removed because most of them ran too slowly to be playable on any game and the
ones that were playable didn't appear to give much ( if any ) improvement to graphics.
If anyone objects, I'll listen to arguments for re-installing it.

- Selectable throttle speed - now you can control how fast the throttle/fast forward
option behaves.

Neo-Genesis v8 + v9
Posted by Sin-Tex at 11:37 AM

Two Days Two Releases, will there be another tomorrow ?
Only Xport knows :)

Details:
NeoGenesis v9

What's New:

- PAL50 support was broken in v8 ; fixed

- Fixed Relax bug - now sharenames like $ROOT$ShareName work

- Sorting is not case sensitive anymore

- Forgot to mention - in v8 pressing DPAD Left/Right moves by letter
on the file selection screens. Move LTHUMB Left/Right to change
screenshots.

NeoGenesis v8
What's New:

- 480p, 720p, 1080i support

- 4x varieties for all filters
+ Most of these 4x filters make the games run too slow to be enjoyable,
but the AdvanceMame4x runs well and so do a few others.
+ I also suggest not using the 4x filters unless you can use
720p or 1080i modes. Scrunching a 1280x960 picture to half that size
looks almost exactly the same as the 2x version (and perhaps a little
worse because of the scrunching.)

- Hardware filtering options : Point, Bilinear, Trilinear, Anisotropic

- Access new video options from Main Menu -> Configuration -> Video Configuration

- Re-vamped the 50/60, tearing, jittery sound, etc. Hopefully this should
straighten out all the weird, misc bugs a few people have encountered when
trying to play PAL games on NTSC XBox or vice versa.

caustik's comments about Xeon
Posted by Sin-Tex at 11:15 AM

News Source: Cxbx

I am sure by now most of you have heard of the new xbox emulator just released, named "Xeon". From the screenshots I have seen, it is very impressive. Halo is apparently playable, although I have not been able to verify this myself. I hope that _SF_ will contact kingofc and myself, so that we can work together to get playable games happening very quickly. This is very exciting news for the emulation scene, and I want congratulate _SF_ on his work.

Recently, two of my hard drives became corrupted, and I lost alot of data. I hope to recover this data very soon so I can continue work on Cxbx. In the meantime, enjoy the new toy, and look forward to seeing Halo supported by Cxbx in the near future!

ScummVMx 0.5.1
Posted by XDelusion at 5:09 AM

Here it finally is, the XBOX port of ScummVM.
Sorry for the VERY long wait but the maintainer of ScummVM didnt want me to release the source just yet until he read every word of the XDK eula (which was a 40 page long fax he told me :) to make sure it didnt breach the GPL license.
I have not included the ISO9660 support, it's laggy/buggy and its much better to just play from HDD.
I might try to improve it later if there's much request for it.

Read More in NFO file.

NeoGenesis v7
Posted by Sin-Tex at 0:04 AM

Xport must be running on Overdrive with all the lovely work he has put into his emu's.

What's New:
- Fixed bug where CDDA music would get turned back ON/OFF incorrectly when returning from Options Menu
- Improved real-CD buffering so if your CD is scratched/damaged, it should still play smoothly
- Added new Configuration Option : Fix Tearing
+ Default is Auto - which means tearing is always fixed unless the game is playing consistently less than max FPS.
Set it to "Always" if you never want to see screen tearing.
For certain 32x games, this will result is a slightly lower/choppier framerate.
Set it to "Never" to get the best possible speed and smooth framerate but you may see screen tearing.
- New UI Feature - Auto Load Most Recent Save State
+ Turn this option on via the Main Menu -> Configuration menu

Frodo-X b3
Posted by Sin-Tex at 23:53 PM

DragonZ Has Released b3 of Frodo-X

Here's what he has to say:

Small bugfix release with new subdirectory support. Thought I would just throw this one out there anyhow.
More stuff still in the works though:
Graphics filters (SAI, Eagle, etc) & SID Player courtesy of Lantus. On-screen key chooser completion, and Im still
working on getting the SC version of Frodo (Cycle based emulation) to work properly..should add some more compatibility.
I've also started to add the foundation for a skinning system.

Changes Since b2:
- Added subdirectory support.
- Mapped arrow keys on USB keyboard (forgot last release to map them).
- Fixed some minor bugs with ZIP support.

Xport has released a new version of his Neogenesis emu to the Xbox console, heres whats new in this release:

What's New:
- Fixed bug in save states when playing from ISO/MP3.
If you saved a game while it was playing an MP3, continued playing
until it loaded another MP3, and then reloaded the save state from the
other MP3, NeoGenesis would crash. This is fixed.
