Saturday, 31, August, 2002 Xbox Media Player b6 released Posted by HyperG at 0:24 AM
Here is what RUNTiME and duo have that's new in the latest edition of Xbox Media Player.
Improved support for DVD-R/W, CD-RW playback. Seeking for AVI files. With the analog buttons you can control how fast you seek. Divx 5.0 and 5.02 Pro support. This includes B frames and qpel motion compensation. MSMpeg4v2 and MSMpeg4v1 support. Skin parameters are in a new and separate .xml file. This will make dropping in new skins much easier. Network configurable via .xml config files. This includes static IP/EVOX/DHCP support. Anamorphic aspect ratio buf fix (16:9). Subtitles. We only support SubRip .srt format right now. There are conversion tools out there, though. Local and Remote Directories supported. DVD tray auto-eject/close. New MMX/SSE optimized motion compensation routines. For the curious, its a combined IDCT and MC copy/add. Several codecs have support for this opimized function but I believe we're the first to implement it in MMX/SSE. Launch XBEs. Dashboard replacement mode. AVI Preemphasis support added. Previously, AVI files with preemphasis would play out of sync. XStream Web Front-end.
What didn't get finished: Mpeg-2 video. Its mostly all done it just isn't stable yet. There's already talk of a B6.1 though just for Mpeg-2. AC3 digital output.
MPEG seeking.
Remote controller should be supported also, along with fast forward and rewind, but there was no mention in the readme. You can check out the Xboxmedia player web-site here.

News Sources: Xbox.com & Official Xbox Magazine
"In reaction to Sony's just-announced PS2 price cut to £169.99, Microsoft has gone one step further by offering the world's most powerful console for £159.99 from tomorrow 30th August."
"European gamers have even more to be celebrating heading into this Christmas shopping season as Microsoft today announced that the European price of its Xbox video game system will be reduced to an estimated street price of €249.99/£159.99, effective from Friday, 30th August."
"The video games industry is more robust than ever this year, and new consoles and games are expected to dominate Christmas wish lists," said Sandy Duncan, Vice President, Xbox Europe. "Xbox is extremely well-positioned to be at the top of those lists because it's the best value. The intense power and gaming experiences consumers get with Xbox is simply unsurpassed."
"Duncan pointed out that only with Xbox this holiday can consumers get a choice of over 200 game titles (with over 300 currently in development) representing the most advanced movie quality graphics, sound effects and music ever experienced on a video game console, plus a built-in hard disc for the most intense gaming experiences and a built-in broadband adapter for instant online gaming with Xbox Live, a new online gaming service launching soon in Europe. "Best value is not just about price," said Duncan. "It's price, plus the most advanced hardware features, plus a killer games portfolio all in one package."

EvoX Menu Editor Posted by Sin-Tex at 17:59 PM
News Source: XboxDeveloper.NET
Just a little program for Windows which allows you to connect to your XBox to edit the \\\'menu.ini\\\' file used by Evolution-X dashboard. The program parses the \\\'menu.ini\\\' file and creates a nice tree view in the GUI. You can easily drag and drop items around, add new, delete, modify, etc. There are commands to alphabetically sort a section or the entire menu tree. There is a command to automatically add games from your \\\'AutoAddItem\\\' directories into the menu file, so you can edit the default titles they are given by Evolution-X dashboard, and can sort them, etc. When you\\\'re all done, the program will reconstruct a new \\\'menu.ini\\\' file and send it back to your XBox. Of course, you can also use it to work with local \\\'menu.ini\\\' files (i.e. for buring to DVDR). It\\\'s nothing earth shattering, but for the slightly anal types, like myself, who don\\\'t always like the names that \\\'AutoAddItem\\\' assigns, and who like to keep their menus in alphabetical order, it\\\'s a real time saver.
LoGo-X v0.3 Released Posted by Sin-Tex at 17:55 PM

LoGo-X allows you to change the little 'microsoft' logo when you cold boot (cd or first time hd). Under the XBOX logo after the animation a 'microsoft' logo appears. You can put whatever you want there now! The logos are 100x17 4bit greyscale, lets see some good artwork folks...
Sorry no download for it here, you know where to look.

cxbx-0.3.0 Released Posted by Sin-Tex at 17:16 PM
News Source: caustik.com
This is the first version released that demonstrates the successfull hijacking of xbox kernel exports. the next step in emulating the xbox system is to provide accurate wrappers for all the xbox kernel exports. this can be done one of several different ways. currently, i am experimenting with both user mode and kernel mode techniques. each has its advantages, and i am unsure which method will be used in the end.
Head over to the download section to grab a copy of cxbx 0.3.0
FOR THOSE THAT DO NOT KNOW THE PURPOSE OF "CXBX"
It is to run xbox software on a compatible pc. ( ie xbox emu for pc )

Xbox-Linux v0.1 released Posted by HyperG at 0:13 AM
Straight from the site, here is a release that features only telenet support and http server. Don't expect playing Tux racer quite yet :-p, no video output.
""This is the first full release of a 'clean' 1MByte BIOS implementation for the Xbox (<-- TM Microsoft) which actually contains and boots a 2.4.18 Linux Kernel, and brings up the network and some applications like a small webserver, etc.
The BIOS can either be executed from the motherboard or LPC boot flash, or from a specially constructed CD, which runs an unsigned XBE that copies the BIOS into RAM and starts running it as if it was a warm boot. (So for the CD method, you must have a mod installed allowing unsigned code to be run.)
Yes, the box lights up on the network and can be telnetted into. All Microsoft 'innovations' (ie, restrictions) have been burnt away. The box is still 0wned, but now its 0wned by YOU."
Check it out here.
Thanks to Consolevision for the news!

Bochs x86 for XBox v1 ( DOS, LINUX & WIndows ) Posted by Sin-Tex at 18:24 PM
This is an x86 emulator for the XBox. This basically emulates a PC and allows you to install DOS, Linux, Windows, etc onto it. There is also a virtual SB16 card to output SB16 sound (except for MIDI which doesn't work yet.) There is no network support in this version, though - so don't get your hopes up about running a linux server. The linux-xbox project will work much better than any emulation anyway. I ported Bochs primarily to play old DOS games.
You can read more about bochs emulator here

xSnes9x CD Swap Posted by Sin-Tex at 17:53 PM
News Source: xSnes9x
Lantus has mentioned maybe implementing software code to allow swapping cd's for various rom disc's.
"Since most people have no eject bioses installed, im looking at implementing code which allows you to pop a cd in full of roms and have the menu scan the new cd and update the list for you. You should be able to eject and rescan as many times as you like."

X-Marbles v0.5 released Posted by HyperG at 16:25 PM
A new day and a new release, here is info from the readme.
"*****************X-Marbles**************
Release 0.5 (August 13, 2002):
First release. Just got this up over the weekend, This is about 90% my own code, originally modified from a code sample over at Code Project for a Pocket PC game (Bubbles). The gameplay matches a popular Java game online.
There's no sound, no keyboard support, and name entry is clumsy, but it's a rush job.... I'm headed off to vacation.
Figure out the controls... it's not too hard; or press "START" in the game screen to display the help.
The resources aren't bundled well, so you'll have to put up with this until I clean up my texture display routines.
Enjoy!"
Since it was developed with the official XDK, we can not provide downloads.

Xbox Mediaplayer B6 progress Posted by Sin-Tex at 22:42 PM
News Source: Xbox Media Player
I've finished the new buffering code. It now reads everything sequentially which should give us better performance on high latency seek devices (your dvd drive).
When I was porting Xvid optimizations, I introduced a bug which caused some minor color distortions. I have a new, optimized idct for Xvid which should take care of the problem. I should be integrating it tomorrow.
I'm expecting that the new buffering code is going to take care of a lot of the problems we were having with seeking.
I bought an Advanced A/V pack yesterday. Now I can listen to surround sound on my xbox. This means that AC3 digital output will probably be going in soon.
I found the problem with the AVI audio predelay. This is causing some videos to be out of sync. This will be fixed.

EvolutionX "2.3"/X-Ecutor Clone Posted by Sin-Tex at 22:31 PM
News Source: XboxHacker.net
EvolutionX "2.3"/X-Ecutor Clone: All features of evox 2.2 (no patch, macrovision off, large HD support) but with the eject trick!
From the .nfo: "bios exact same as EvolutionX V2.2.bin, except it allows the trick to patch the media type to 0x80000007 to eject without rebooting the xbox."
While unofficial (created independantly), it is confirmed to work!
COMPLEX 1.0: Supposedly this bios runs debug code as well as having all the features of evox 2.3. It is based on the yet-unreleased ms kernel 4627 (which probably has many bugfixes).

Public Plea for UK Internet users Posted by Wraggster at 21:16 PM
Those of us who use the Internet all around the world know about the pitfalls of the net, and this week the horror has been brought home to all of us regarding the abduction of 2 10 year old girls from Soham which is a small town in the UK. I myself have a child the same age has these girls and it is terrorfying. So my plea is for anyone who knows where Holly Wells and Jessica Chapman are or the people holding these young girls please get in touch with either the police or anyone so that these children can return home safely. Those of you in other parts of the world can find out more information in this News article
If you do know please tell someone so that the parents can see their children again.
Thanks for your time and lets hope we can see an happy ending to this sad story.
Breakout X3D v1.3 Posted by Sin-Tex at 17:55 PM
News Source: XboxHacker BBS
Breakout X3D v1.3
Well here's the second release of BreakoutX and i've gone 3d! All the changes from v1 are pretty much cosmetic. I've added music (Big shout out to the Chemical Brothers for letting me "borrow" the rocking track), some sound effects and textures. Also ironed out a few little bugs. You can change the textures and music if you want, just remember to rename the files you replace correctly. (The BALL.bmp files are the backgrounds BTW.)
Controls:
Either Thumbstick: Move paddle. Y: Pause A: Turn off background X: Turn on background Shoulder buttons plus black: Back to dash.
This will be the last release for quite a while as it's gonna take quite some time getting everything ready for the next version. I hoping to add power-ups, user-defined levels, a menu where you can change difficulty etc. Plus all sorts of other exciting stuff!
Info about Version 1.0
"Here's a nice simple Breakout clone for you. This release is very basic, but I think it's a good example of what can easyly be acheieved (I only started c++ and directX 4 days ago.) All levels are the same except the blocks get lower and the ball gets faster quicker. Future versions will have sound and music, cool models and brick textures, powerups and all the other stuff you'd expect from a quality Breakout clone."
Unfortunatly we cannot provide a download for it here :(
Frodo-X beta 1 released! Posted by HyperG at 0:33 AM
The authors have released Frodo for Xbox, which is a c64 emulator originally for PC, here is what's from the readme.
Roms go in \C64ROMS Maximum of 4096 files in a directory Roms *must* be in either .D64 or .T64 format and unzipped. Multi Disk games C64 Bios Roms reside in \BIOS Sound can sound messed up during the beginning of a game. *THIS IS NORMAL*. Sound could also temporarily sound funny when restoring a Savestate. Flashing screen, garbled characters, black screen while a game is coming up. *THIS IS ALSO NORMAL* Loading games with 1541 True Emulation (loading game with the Right Thumb) makes for quite a bit longer load time between the time you hit your selection and the game comes up. THIS IS NOT OUR FAULT.
Without
the On-Screen keyboard, some games will not be able to be started once the game
is loaded.
Enjoy, get it from the usual places. We do not provide downloads sorry.

"We just got a USB keyboard working with the Xbox today. Me and Joker knocked
our heads together for an hour since we were so inspired of the upcoming C6
emu and Voila keyboard. We changed one of the controllers ports to a USB type
B connector. Plugged in an original Microsoft keyboard, Joker did some fiddling
with some code and the we were writing stuff on the screen. We will add more
info and pics on www.xboxtechinfo.com/xbooty tomorrow when we get back on
work."

xSnes9x Beta 4 PAL/PAL60
issues

Source: xSnes9x
For all you people using a pal xbox & getting a black screen when running
some of your games on the new beta 4 xSnes9x read below.
"Welp, i let one bug slip thru the Beta 4 release. If your running a PAL Xbox
and have your video mode set to PAL you cannot load NTSC roms , you will see
a black screen. The reason for this is is that a 50hz PAL signal doesnt know
what to do with a 60hz NTSC signal. Theres a couple of ways around this issue:
- If your TV supports PAL60 set your Xbox console to PAL60 mode. This problem
wont occur in this mode.
- Try using the european rom instead of the NTSC.
- If its really ticking you off , go back to Beta 3 for the time being.
Rest assured. It will be fixed for the next beta.

xSNES9x beta 4 released!

at 0:08 AM
Yes,
the news that was hyped on a few sites including ours, is now made official.
Here are the details of the latest release from the readme :-) .
Fixed memory leak which was causing Mario Kart, Lemmings 2 and selected other roms to lock on exit. Big thanks to The Joker for his assistance and advice. Added SDD-1 Rom support for Street Fighter Alpha 2 and Star Ocean. You'll need the Graphic's Packs from www.dejap.com to run Street Fighter Alpha 2 and Star Ocean. Unpack the SFA2 graphics packs to the FreezeFile/SFA2SDD1 directory and Star Ocean graphics packs to FreezeFile/socnsdd1 direcotory. Added screen resizing and movement with both analog sticks while in game. Left Stick controls x,y movement, Right Stick controls stretching/scaling. Upon exiting a game your screen settings will be saved at the last set position. Proper NTSC/PAL/PAL60 support implemented. Fixed bug where some games would never create a valid SRAM save file. (Super Mario All Stars & World) Added Turbo Button - default is XBOX_WHITE . This is useful for speeding up intro scenes and large text passages in RPG's. The Turbo button can be mapped via the .ini file and is only active while the button is held down. Once a button is released default emulation will continue. Fixed a sorting bug with the rom list. For example if your list contained Mario.ZIP and Mario Kart.ZIP it would sometimes load the incorrect ROM. Added RomPath= in the .ini file where pathname is the directory to scan for ROMS. Added *experimental* HDTV support. To enable this set one of 480p, 720p or 1080i to 1 in the .ini file. Since i have no way of testing this please provide feedback/screenshots of the output.
DPAD
Up and Down enabled in the rom list for more accurate selection.
Thanks to Lantus for the exclusive news! We however don't provide binaries,
nor does Lantus's web-site, which is located here.

"The only modchip powered by 110V for high performance!"
not to mention theres a relay on the left (no mod ever needs a relay), and
if you consider the size of that PLCC chip compared to the wire size shown,
these wires are HUGE, as in, AC power wire huge. where do those connect in
the xbox, 15 pins at once each?
it's a scam, period."

"Development Updates
Duo has virtually completed work porting ffdshow's FFMPEG library which means
that you'll be able to watch DivX 5.0 encoded clips. Similarly, I've almost
finished imdb.org intergration which means that movie details and pictures
will be harvested automatically for those of you who run XStream off internet
connected PCs."
Also this from XboxHacker.net
"I'll post here to let everyone know whats happening with the current development
builds.
Divx 5.0!!! Woohoo!
I also have finished MsMpeg4v2 support.
I'm doing a lot towards optimizing the video codecs to speed them up. These
include new SSE optimizations. I have just finished a new version if IDCT
that combines the most common Motion Compensation functions all into one big
optimized function. It gave a noticable improvement in video decoding time.
So we're still having fun working on the latest and greatest. I'll add more
posts here as I get new things working."

"Final installation methods & diagrams will be posted in next few days. We
have now finished our work with hardware. We much prefer playing with software
tools so all hardware details have now been passed onto our Chinese friends
along with all ideas and designs for new flash update tools. They will be
selling things from next week as this is not really our scene. It's been lot's
of fun playing with this and we will now be concentrating 100% on Playstation
emulators for the XBOX."
:: Final Note:
Yes MS will change all their encryption routines. Yes MS will have chip detection
in their software. Yes MS will change designs of the console. Yes they will
all be cracked. So chill - be thankful for what you have, you all gotta choice
whether its a homebrew or something manufactured. If you don't like a mod
- don't bitch about it - make your own. If you don't like a group - don't
bitch about them - start your own group. If you think buying a mod is expensive
make your own homebrew. If you can't do that and still bitch about money,
hell you shouldn't have brought the console in the first place if you never
planned on paying $60 for your games.
Peace out."
Good luck with the PSX Emu guys & thanks for such a good chip.

FCEU X v2 released!
Posted by HyperG
at 21:20 PM
Second
release today! Very good release, check out what's new.
"What's New:
Cheat searching works now Save states Netplay FDS (Famicom Disk System) Support Configuration via INI file, same as with DGen, HUGO, etc. (adjustable screen size, etc)
Changes to bring it in line with more recent emus.
To play FDS games, you must have the DISKSYS.ROM file located in the \NESROMS directory and it must be unzipped. (It's only 8K) Select the FDS image to load from the menu, and when the general FDS intro screen comes on, press the WHITE button to "Insert disk". The BLACK button ejects the disk and the B button selects a disk.
There is some strangeness with establishing an XBOX connection - especially when going from NAT to NAT. I have a router that can map specific ports to specific computers in my intranet, but it would not route correctly to my XBOX. I still don't know why this is, but if you are having the same kind of problems, then I suggest you download a portmapper, for example:
http://www.analogx.com/contents/download/network/pmapper.htm
If you are the server, set up a mapping for port 8989 going from your computer to your xbox. For example, let's say your XBOX IP address is 192.168.123.10 and your computer IP address is 192.168.123.11. You would run the portmapper on your computer and map port 8989 to 192.168.123.10. Be sure your router is routing port 8989 to your computer (192.168.123.11 in the above example.)
If you are the client, set up a port mapping on your computer from port 8989 to the IP address of the XBOX server to which you are trying to connect. Then when you are entering an IP address in FCEU, enter the IP address of your computer that is running the port mapper.
Netplay is functional, but there are periodic pauses in gameplay. I'm looking into improving it, but for now, just make do. You can adjust the lag variable on the server-side. Increasing the number should decrease the amount of pauses, but it will make the joypads seem less responsive.
Enjoy!"

X-ecuter add-on "False Info" Posted by Sin-Tex at 18:08 PM
News Source: X-ecuter
For those of you that have been reading about a X-ecuter add-on on various other sites, it's false info. Read below for what it really is.
:: False Rumours ::
We have been "looking" at a flash upgradeable design (connect to LPT port) but this will not be any kind of add-on and will be a seperate product designed for those that want to play around with the inferior BIOS files available online, if and when we ever decide to do it. This will be similar to the openbox but would be much cheaper and will not have any BIOS programmed to it. Remember if there is any news on X-ecuter - don't beleive it till you read it here. If we are working on something as opposed to just looking at something we will let you know.
boXplorer v0.95 Posted by Sin-Tex at 17:56 PM
News Source: XboxHacker BBS
T'ulkas author of boXplorer has posted news of an updated version coming soon.
I've been working hard on the next version and there are some big changes which I belive people will like
Here are the new features in v0.95 :
- Introduction of file operations making boXplorer a real file manager : Copy multiple files/folders. Move multiple files/folders. Delete multiple files/folders. Rename single file or folder. Create new folder. - Main Menu with file operations and other features (activate with WHITE button) - Mark files for file operations (press X) - "Mark All", "Clear Marks" and "Inverse Marks" in main menu to bulk-mark files. - Panel A and Panel B - used like in Norton Commander or Windows Commander to select source and destination for file operations (toggle with left thumb button or trigger buttons). - Select Drive function now shows free and total space on each drive. - Button layout changed slightly to make room for new features.
All features are currently implemented and work nicely but need a bit of testing and polishing up for release... expect a release soon.
